Amazing. I was a week late in getting this one read for my twister podcast episode and that makes me so incredibly sad. This book was fantastic! One of my 2024 favorites for sure.

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Oh thank goodness. For some reason I thought I‘d gotten mixed up on what July‘s book was. 😅 Went ahead and picked up this from the library, so I‘m glad I chose correctly! 🤣 6d

I feel as though you‘d have to be about 64% more weather-nerdy than I am to fully and truly appreciate the book in its entirety. Still: wow! There was some big tension and a lot of detail that made me extra-super happy that my biggest weather woes in Maine typically involve snow and ice, both of which are kittens compared to the weather events described here. Respectful and interesting story of smart people taking risks for science. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

CaitlinR Sound fascinating. Thanks for the review! 7d

This reads like the romcom “Set It Up” but in slightly different setting. I liked that mental health was such a huge part of the story. It really was a pretty cute romance. A few wrinkles, but nothing too glaring. Breakup felt silly to me. What I did notice though is that mature content 🌶️ matches the one from the book I‘ve read prior, down to the sequence and details. This book came out 2 years earlier, it is now the trend, I guess.

4.5 ⭐ I just don't think anyone beats Erik Larson in nonfiction telling today. I always find his books fascinating and end up learning things I never did. Isaac's Storm is no different. It is about the deadliest hurricane to ever hit America. It happened 105 years before Katherine, in 1900 in Galveston, Texas. The hurricane killed thousands and demolished the city. Some say had it not been for the hurricane, Galveston may have been as ⬇️

Monica5 big as Houston and as important. Larson looks at a meteorologist Isaac Cline and the deadliest hurricane. It seems in those days, men had thought that they had reached the limits of science and that they were immune to nature's power. A very compelling, vivid true story of life and death.

Isaac has an award named after him. So it was interesting taking a dive into who he was and what went down, which suggests the credit to him may be overhyped. As someone who work who works in this field, it‘s a humbling reminder, and it‘s a solid read.

I thought it was good, but it didn‘t have as much humour as the other “For Dummies” books I‘ve read; I usually really like the humour, so I missed that. In all honesty, even though it was simplified, I still had trouble fully understanding some of the explanations and had to reread a few paragraphs more than once. Even so, I definitely learned things. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin There was some repetition but that‘s because it is meant to be a reference, so you don‘t need to read it front to back; the repetition didn‘t bother me, but I wanted to mention it. 6mo
