My 3rd & final March #ThematicCozies pick #Hobby almost didn‘t happen because when I started the audiobook the narration seemed to have almost no inflection & that bugged me. Since it was 4:30 AM & I was on my way to the airport & wanted it for my commutes last week, I sped it up to 1.5 & that was better. I was able to get into the story of Katie Bonner who becomes the manager of Artisan‘s Alley when her business ⬇️
This really makes me think I'd have a better time with murder mysteries if they were all novella length. A couple caveats: I've had a good time with each book in this series thanks to the cheeky meta angle as well as the quality of the writing, and the last two books were not novellas. I also accept that if you're a one off or the first book in a murder mystery series you might have to take more time to introduce characters, and that adds 1/?
Olivia was 3 when her mother was killed. Her dad was missing. She spends time with her grandmother until the grandmother dies in her 50s. Olivia decides to try to discover the facts after hearing that her father‘s jaw bone was found. She goes to the funeral and decides to stay to solve the crimes. Set in Oregon. 4/5⭐️
First entry in the Chicago Mystery, and it promises to be a great series. The primary character, Cass Raines used to be a cop. She left after being involved in a shooting caused by an incompetent cop who escalated what should have been the arrest of a teenager. Now she‘s a PI, and in this story she‘s seeking the killer of a priest who cared for her when she lost her mother. Good story, great characters. Well worth reading.
A super quick fun addition to the series! Good twists in the mystery, with lots of humor and some big red herrings. The audio narration is so good. I cannot say much without giving away the plot line, but this takes place near Christmas, and Ernest has just a few days to solve the murder before his ex-wife has to spend Christmas in jail.
Marie Benedict is an auto-buy author for me. This one wasn't my favorite of hers, but I think it would hit it out of the park for readers of mysteries like Agatha Christie, who is one of the characters in this book. I like how it is based on a real cold case. The feminist angles appeal to me as much as the treatment of women as disposable angers me.
A thing happened over the weekend. My birthday! 🥳 My #Litsypenpal @Beck9lol did it again and spoiled me with all the books! 🎁 I‘m sipping out of the Plant Lady mug (shaped like a ceramic pot 🥹) and equipped with a shovel spoon!! It doesn‘t get any better than this and relieved I finally snagged a couple of days off to enjoy all of these wonderful gifts. Thanks so much Becky. My heart is full! Hope everyone‘s weekend is filled with great reads!📚
