This story is based on untold historical events inside the Lebensborn Society maternity homes that existed during WWII. They had a "Program" to ensure that the German race is preserved and raised by good German families. Three women find themselves in precarious situations while trying to protect themselves and their unborn baby.

I honestly don't know what to think of this. Perhaps I'm too old for it or maybe -- since it was recommended by my mom -- not old enough.

sblbooks Sorry it wasn't a favorite for you. The only one I've read by this author is the mixed up files... 2w
Daisey @willaful @sblbooks I just recently read The View from Saturday by this author and found it underwhelming compared to The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler as well. 2w
willaful @sblbooks She wrote some really great books. 2w

Courage. It‘s what Virginia and Violette harness as they navigate life during the war in Sisters of Night and Fog by Erika Robuck. It‘s a nice, long read that alternates between the lives of these women as they navigate the changes in their young lives that are significantly impacted by the invasion of the Nazi‘s. I purchased the audiobook from Audible. Narration by Caroline Hewitt is amazing!

A fascinating, but often disturbing, story about a little-known Nazi program to help breed Hitler‘s master race. Three women who are caught in this web and how they react is at the crux of this story. The author does an excellent job of differentiating the main characters to highlight differing circumstances and attitudes. Not a particularly easy read because of the subject, but well written and worth the time.

tpixie Great review! I totally agree! Writing this from the 3 different perspectives was an excellent choice. 3mo

PROMPT: FOG COVER

We meet Virginia, an American in Paris and married to a French man.

We meet Violette, a British and French citizen who marries a French man.

Both are strong women based on real people and who want to do more for the war effort than staying home.  They both want to help their country fight the Nazis.

Looking for a story that will inspire, with tales of courage and sacrifice then you've found it! This is a heart-wrenching tale of the struggles of two sisters who follow their convictions to do what they think is right.
I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

POV: nonfiction author losing credibility by the fourth paragraph after stating he was a comic book fan since the 60s, yet didn‘t know that the comic book Steve Rogers grew up in the Irish neighborhoods of the Lower East Side. The author was obviously not a Capt America fan until 2011 when the movies inexplicably moved Steve Rogers to Brooklyn. 🤷‍♂️

julesG 🤭🤣🤣🤣 Now we all know just how much research went into the book. 4mo
Awk_Word_Smith @julesG I mean that was literally the first thing that I thought when I read it. I know I‘m a comic book nerd, but if you spend the three previous paragraphs and the first four of your book trying to convince the reader you know what you‘re talking about—please know what you‘re talking about. 😂 4mo

This #nonfictionread was beyond heartbreaking. But, it's also as odd as it sounds an empowering read as this woman unpacked her history and found her personal history and truth.
