I have finished the in 2 days, it is this kind of book you cannot leave it. I‘ve read about similar war stories multiple times and as always only one thing comes to mind- how come people can do that to others??? What‘s was wrong with them? Nazi propaganda was a one thing but being a human not an animal is another thing #kristinhannah #nightingale #slowik #war
Sums up my last 4 shifts!
The hallway and elevator walls in the hospital where I work are covered with drawings and letters from kids from all over the world. Probably from school projects. The outpouring of love and support during a crisis never ceases to amaze me. This note in one of the elevators is my favorite. I like to imagine that it is from a young book lover.

#magical May May 6: nurse‘s day
I read a book when I was younger (late elementary or middle school) about Florence Nightingale, an amazing woman and a nursing pioneer. Her story stuck with me even though I don‘t remember the exact book.
I went to a university with a big nursing program & several friends are nurses. I admire and respect the work they do. The profession is under-appreciated and underpaid. I certainly couldn‘t do what they do. ❤️

One of my favorite children‘s classic.
This was excellent! An imagined version of historical fiction. Florence Nightingale and Flaubert, both in their late 20s and not yet famous, toured the Nile at the same time in 1850. Though they never met, this book imagines what it might have been like if they did. Despite not knowing much about either person or Egypt, I loved this. It‘s beautifully written — the author is a poet— and haunting.
Florence Nightingale definitely had some sexist ideas about women as nurses so I won‘t share any of those. I wonder if this one was inspired by the Biblical parable about the mustard seed?
Nurses are some of my favorite people - my family has had a total of 5 now, I think. Well, at least in my lifetime. Before that? 🤷♀️
