Fifty Words for Snow | Nancy Campbell

I have continued to play along with #booked23 whilst understanding all the reasons why the team behind it pulled it for the year and I am proud to have finished it with this gift from a Litsy swap from @jhod last year! As ever in essays there are some you like more (Japan) than others (France) but this was a lovely little book of peace to dip in and out of through the Christmas season (it‘s also book 100‘of the year!)

jhod How apt! Congrats on your century! 11mo

With this book, #pop23 (excluding advanced prompts) is done. #withgirlinthetitle

Also #booked23 #partofatrilogy - there's probably more in the series but it's so late in the year I can't be bothered to find an actual trilogy now.

Picked this from my kindle backlog for a #booked23 entry and I was both confused and blown away and really would love to read it as a book club! Theee is no real plot just wonderfully drawn people and places until the town is the lead. Which is just as well as The main character is not introduced until a fir way in and then we lose her for 20 years of her life and what we see of her is not all that pleasant!

This is a raw memoir about love, family and gender. I really like what Nelson had to say and the experiences she shared. Parts of it were like being in her head. She would be sharing one story, and another would pop up and she‘d veer course and come back around with the original thought. Overall it was pretty good. #Pop23 ~a book with just text on the cover #ReadHarder23 ~a nonfiction book about queer history #Booked23 ~about reproductive rights

Larkken I loved this book. Glad it resonated with you too. 13mo

KathyWheeler I read Yellowface and liked it, but, for reasons I can‘t explain, I‘m intimidated by Babel. 13mo
jenniferw88 @KathyWheeler understandable. I think a little knowledge of UK history during Victoria's early reign would be desirable, as certain references and events could go over one's head (especially if you live abroad). 13mo
KathyWheeler @jenniferw88 That actually helps — when I got my masters in English, my area was Victorian Lit. 13mo

jenniferw88 @KathyWheeler 👍😀 to be fair to the author, it covers the last few years of William IV's reign and the beginning of Victoria's. 13mo

BarbaraBB I hadn‘t realized you hadn‘t read this one yet. It‘s good right? 13mo

To say this book was not what I expected would be rather an understatement. Why did I think it was about UFO‘s? I don‘t know… yes there is a passing mention but… anyway, it was an interesting read. My lack of knowledge about Mexican politics felt acute whilst reading it. Another book where none of the characters are really likable, I seem to be drawn to them this year. I honestly have no idea how many stars to give it… #litsyAtoZ #Q #Booked23

BarbaraBB Well there‘s a UFO on the cover… I immediately thought of an SF read! 💕 13mo

Okay I‘m going to be honest, I love this series but I did not love this book. I don‘t want to give spoilers so I won‘t mention plot points but it was the first of this series that really dragged for me. However it still served a purpose - this is my #booked23 #featuringneighbours pick. Any in the series would fill the slot really! And the relationship between the three lines characters is definitely what makes the books for me (usually).

JamieArc I feel like I‘ve seen a lot of people say that this was not their favorite in the series, so you are not alone there. 13mo

By the skin of my teeeth I have finished Q3 of #booked23 with this captivating story of a non binary teen living with their autistic father and grappling with a mother who walked out years earlier. Morgan is a fab protagonist and N all too believable teenager full of hope and self destructive traits. A special book
