After years of hoping and planning, my mom and I (and Chris, Soph and my brother) finally got to see beautiful Martha‘s Vineyard - and Susan Branch‘s house! (2 months after she moved to California, she only lived on the island for 40 years… 😆)

I started reading her book set on the island while I was there, and I‘m enjoying it very much! I set it aside after being disappointed by Fairy Tale Girl, but this one we know has a happy ending. 🥰

Found many artists to research further. The methodology &structure of this book is very well done. The focus was on painters & sculptors, there were also notations for fiber art, photographers, performance art & more
The answer to The Story of Art by Ernst Gombrich (published in 1950, included no women until the 16th edition which added 1 woman) the intro might be a lil “Girl Power 101” feminism but the art, &stories behind the art, are still good

A great book and absolutely delightful reading experience - Katy Hessel starts from the top and tells the stories of the women who did and did not make the survey texts. It brought me back and inspired me to keep learning.

So now that I've read both the bloke and non-bloke versions, you'll be wanting to know who wore it best, right?

Well the art in this one is just as good as in The Story of Art, but I did sometimes find myself wishing for Gombrich's infectious storytelling whilst reading this excellent collection of art-thusiasm.

You can tell which eras Hessel is most interested in because then her writing gleams.

Another wonderful book about art ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wasn‘t expecting the miniature version of 100 Flowers to be quite this miniature, but ever since I discovered miniature versions of coffee table art books I‘ve been looking for (used if possible) ones to look at in bed when I‘m too sick to read or watch TV, so maybe a truly tiny one is actually just what I needed. I can keep it by my bed right within reach. #theuniversealwaysknowsbest

Finally getting round to reading this which has been on my tbr for ages!
The audiobook is excellent and comes with a pdf so I can study the art while the book is being read to me 😊

Beautifully illustrated, this picture book introduced me to some familiar and unfamiliar names.

Each letter is dedicated to what the artist was best known for - for example Yayoi Kusama is featured on the page “D is for Dots” - and it ends with mini bios of all artists mentioned.

Rissreads Ooooo, this looks great! I‘ll add it to our purchasing list in the library! ♥️ 12mo
