I've watched this show, but this is the first book I've read in this series. This collection has 4 short stories in it, each uniquely different, and showcasing Walt's interesting personality. 😁 I may have to give the first one in the series a try now. Walt's character is very entertaining.

I love the author, Peter Heller but am having trouble with his newest book. It flips around narrators and their memories too much to follow easily.

BookNAround I really liked this one. Hope it improves for you. 6d
Blueberry @BookNAround I hope it does too. 6d
Blueberry @BookNAround I finished Celine. I did enjoy the book by the end but because of all the delving into the past I would give it a 4 out of 5. 5d
BookNAround I‘m so glad it improved for you! 5d

#wintergames #merryReaders #winterReadsBingo #whitecover I‘m so happy to have finally listened to this book 1 in the Walt Longmire series - it‘s got great characters and humor that had me laughing out loud. The audio narrator was George Guidall and he did an amazing job with all the character voices. Loved it! Ready to read more in the series!

KathyWheeler I had watched the tv show, which is good, before I read the books, so I was surprised at how funny the books are. The show is not anywhere near as funny. 1w
Clwojick Woohoo! 15 pts! 🥰 1w
AnneFindsJoy @KathyWheeler that‘s interesting to know, I haven‘t watched the show. I think I‘ll just keep laughing out loud to the audiobooks, then! 😆 1w
KathyWheeler @AnneFindsJoy oh, the show is excellent! It just isn‘t laugh out loud funny the way the books are. 1w

They discussed the plan and the possibilities. They would move in on the elk camp in the predawn from three directions and close in. Wacey said he would #communicate with Joe and Deputy McLanahan with hand signals. If anyone was in the camp, they would surround and disarm them as quickly as possible. #QuotsyDec19

Day 3 of #adventrecommends : 24 books you think people should know about.

In 1998, Matthew Shepard, 21, was lured from a Wyoming bar by two men, savagely beaten, tied to a remote fence, and left to die — because he was gay. This is a series of 68 poems about his death, written from various points of views, including the fence he was tied to, the stars that watched over him as he was dying, the deer that kept him company, and Matthew himself.

TrishB That sounds so sad 💔 ☹️ 2w
Amiable @TrishB It‘s powerful and moving and — given that we have an administration in this country that is intent on rolling back protections for the LGBTQ community — vitally necessary. 😢 2w
TrishB Agree totally. I just don‘t know if I could read. I have stacked and see when emotionally ready. 2w

"Mm hmm. Yes. It is so."

Surprised at how good this book was. A story of trauma and revenge. But definitely of tenderness and vulnerability.

Close Range is a solid story collection exhibiting the harsh brutality of life in #Wyoming. Reading this, it‘s not hard to wonder why it‘s the state with the smallest population yet is 9th in total land area. There is some brief casual violence here and this definitely isn‘t for everyone, but I quite liked it.

jessinikkip Sounds good, I may see if the library has a copy, I still need that state 2w
Hooked_on_books @jessinikkip Cool! The author is from Wyoming, so one of her novels would work as well if they don‘t have this one. 2w

Apparently in November I was in the mood for detective stories. In addition to these two favorites, I read a Kinsey Millhone book, my first Easy Rawlins mystery, Celine, and I started an Inspector Gamache novel. Four detectives in one month!

MicheleinPhilly I definitely have months like that. Some months I just stick with one detective and read almost nothing else. It‘s my version of comfort food. 2w
Avidreader25 @MicheleinPhilly That‘s exactly it for me! Detective stories are my comfort food. This month I just needed that. 2w

Celine is different from any mystery I have ever read. I would very much like to spend time with the MC and her husband. They are amazing people who love and respect each other deeply. They go on a meandering RV trip to solve this mystery and attempt to do what Celine always does - reunite families.
