This is a classic story realistic fiction that I also read when I was younger. It tells a story of a little mischievous boy name David that got into everything and sometimes even destroyed things too. This book won the Caldecott Honor. This RF story follows a boy name Timminy and how he moves to a new town; where he gets bullied and teased all throughout most of the story. Nevertheless, he does makes it through with the help of Maxi, the lovable, big, deaf dog. This would be a wonderful book in the classroom for students to read about who maybe going through the same thing. This book won the FL Sunshine State Award #UCFLAE3414SP18

This realistic fiction tells a story of a boy name Bobby and how he thinks she a monster because of the way he treats her. However, when he sees her at his favorite spot at a park he considers her to be pretty nice and cool. UDL Strategy 1.1 and ESOL Strategies 10, 13, and 22. Wonder written by R. J. Palacio is a RF story about a boy name Auggie Pullman and how he goes through life with a rare condition called Treacher Collins Syndrome. It won the Mark Twain and the Maine Student Book Award; along with many others. One thing I love about the book is that it's not only written in his POV but, it also has his sister and friends POV too. #UCFLAE3414SP18

A Picture Book of Anne Frank written by David Adler illustrated by Karen Ritz is a wonderful child-friendly Biography about Anne Frank and her family before they were captured and forced to live on concentration camps. Though this is a said story, it'll still be great to use in a classroom during a history lesson when teaching about the Holocaust. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Where the Sidewalk Ends written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein is a classic poetry book that I read when I was younger. This book is composed of many poems and short stories that comes with drawings that are in black and white. I would use this as a RA, AS, and DR. UDL Strategy 9.1 because when reading to children before starting a lesson may open up their minds to start the day. It can also be refreshing to them too. #UCFLAE3414SP18

A Song About Myself written by John Keats and illustrated by Chris Raschka is poetry story about the wondrous adventure of a "naughty boy" that runs away to Scotland. This poem was originally a letter that he wrote to his sister. A UDL Strategy I would use for this poem is 7.2. ESOL Strategies 16, 40, and 22. I couldn't find any lesson that directly went with the book, however, I did find a link that has lessons for poems. #UCFLAE3414SP18

This funny Cuban Folktale story is about a cockroach name Martina that's looking for a husband. She gains advice from her Abuela then sets off to look for true love. One thing that I really love about this story is that it incorporates both English and Spanish language. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Douglas, You Need Glasses written and illustrated by Ged Adamson is a book about a fun-loving dog name Douglas that just wants to be free and have fun. However, there's a problem, he has horrible eyesight; which tends to led him into some petty sticky situations. This is a RF and F book that won the Florida Sunshine State Book Award. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR A good UDL Strategy I would use for this book is 3.2 because I'll show the relationship between not having glasses and it's consequences. Rumpelstiltskin retold and illustrated by Paul O Zelinsky is a traditional lit. story about a miller's daughter who supposedly can spin straw into gold. Though she can't, a little man name Rumplestiltskin comes to save the day. This folktale had won a Caldecott Award for best picture book. #UCFLAE3414SP18

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle is an incredible book. It won 3 awards, the Newbery award, Sequoyah Book Award, and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. This remarkable SF 1962 story follows a young girl along with her younger brother and a new friend on an adventure to look for their father. I am so ready for the movie to come out. #UCFLAE3414SP18

AndreaG This is a book my oldest picked to buy years ago at a scholastic book fair night. While she‘s since moved to more challenging texts, this book remains in our at home library. I found the book packed with information and entertaining. 7y

BriannaR Though this book doesn't have any awards I still think it's a good book to use during PR, SR, LC, and IR. A great UDL strategy would 5.3 because the students will be practicing supporting each other during group reading. Other great strategies would be EL 10. 7y

Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra is a nonfiction story written by Andrea Pinkney and illustrated by Brian Pinkney. This biography explains how Ellington became an advocate for jazz. This would be a great book to introduce to students during music class when learning about jazz or during black history month when learning about all the African Americans who helped shaped society today. #UCFLAE3414SP18

BriannaR A UDL strategy that would be perfect to connect with this story is 9.2. This strategy will allow students to connect within themselves and have more self-control. An EL strategy I would pick is number 3 because it promotes positive thinking. Which ties great with connecting with self and coping skills. 7y
