The Man Who Died Twice
The Man Who Died Twice: A Thursday Murder Club Mystery | Richard Osman
The second gripping novel in the #1 internationally bestselling Thursday Murder Club series, the first of which Kate Atkinson called "A little beacon of pleasure in the midst of the gloom. . . SUCH FUN!" Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahimthe Thursday Murder Clubare still riding high off their recent real-life murder case and are looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet at Coopers Chase, their posh retirement village. But they are out of luck. An unexpected visitoran old pal of Elizabeths (or perhaps more than just a pal?)arrives, desperate for her help. He has been accused of stealing diamonds worth millions from the wrong men and hes seriously on the lam. Then, as night follows day, the first body is found. But not the last. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim are up against a ruthless murderer who wouldnt bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can our four friends catch the killer before the killer catches them? And if they find the diamonds, too? Well, wouldnt that be a bonus? You should never put anything beyond the Thursday Murder Club. Richard Osman is back with everyones favorite mystery-solving quartet, and the second installment of The Thursday Murder Club series is just as clever and warm as the firstan unputdownable, laugh-out-loud pleasure of a read.

Loved this one so much. I didn‘t find the first one as uproariously funny as other people, but I definitely laughed a lot during this one! All the characters are fantastic and it‘s an excellent gentle read despite the gruesome crimes!

AmyG I‘m reading the first one which I find funny in a “chuckle” sort of way. 1w
bookwrm526 @AmyG that‘s how I felt about it too, and then I kept reading about how funny it was….I thought maybe the British-ness of the humor was escaping me? 1w

This is the second book in the “Thursday Murder Club“ series and I found it to be light, clever and thoroughly entertaining. Set in a retirement village, a group of senior citizens with varied backgrounds solve mysteries and right wrongs. I would recommend that you start with the first book in the series “The Thursday Murder Club“. I am looking forward to more visits with this group in the future. I gave it 4/5 stars.

For October's #12booksof2021 pick, I would struggle to pick between these two beauties... if I had to choose, I'd probably go for The Man Who Died Twice, but they are both getting mentioned because they were both AWESOME!!!

The same characters (or at least the survivors) from the first book. 3rd person present tense interspersed with entries from Joyce‘s diaries. She reminds me of (Helen Hayes as) Miss Marple - a bit fluffy - though there are too many question marks in her diary entries, which I‘m finding a bit irritating.
About 1/3 of the way through now; we‘ve only seen a couple of chapters from DCI Hudson‘s & PC de Freitas‘s POV. It‘d be nice to have a few more.

Thanks for the tag @Ruthiella 💕 Here are my top 21 books of 21

My book rating has been super-stingy this year, I've only given 5 stars to The Man Who Died Twice and The Last Wish. There were some very high 4 star reads too: Recursion, Strange the Dreamer duology, Love Virtually etc..

In 2022, I aim to diversify my reading and throw myself into #pop22 and Read Harder challenges. Hopefully there'll be more 5 star reads ahead 😀

#top21of21

BarbaraBB Thank you for sharing, some great choices! I loved Recursion and We Have Always Lived in the Castle! 1mo

I thoroughly enjoyed this Christie-style murder mystery. I love the luxury retirement village setting, humour, inclusiveness and a good old-fashioned puzzle. It‘s a contemporary take on Miss Marple-style sleuthing - the women are more independent and the characters more diverse - and Osman is a funnier writer. A comforting read.

Book two is just as charming, just as delightful, just as much fun as the first…. I‘m not a series reader at all, but this one has me hooked, purely because the characters are so loveable. It‘s such a joy to hang out with these aging amateur detectives. It‘s like a modern-day Miss (and Mr) Marple meets Midsomer Murders, with even more dry humor. I giggled and smiled throughout. Comfort reading to the max. Excellent on audio too.💕🎧📚

The second in Richard Osman‘s THURSDAY MURDER CLUB SERIES is another thoroughly entertaining crime novel that draws on Elizabeth‘s espionage past but has something to say about finding love in middle age and the fears that come with old age. The plot slightly strains to unite its various strands at the end but Osman pulls it off with aplomb while providing some laugh out loud moments such that I‘m already very keen to get book number 3.

Good second novel in the series. At the end of my #audiobook there was a chat with the author and the narrator, which hinted at more books. Book three might see some Russian action.

I just adored this! I recommend that you read the first in the series, The Thursday Murder Club, first. You will be able to follow the plot of this book without having read the first book, but you will want to know these characters. This group of elderly friends could have been a bunch of stereotypes, but the author rounds them out into real people. The chapters are short, and the plot races along.
