3.5 / 5

I listened to the audiobook version through Scribd.

I enjoyed reading or listening to this thriller/mystery. I was interested in where they would go with the story, especially about Owen's past and the mysteries surrounding him. It kept me engaged until the end.

I recommend this book to people who like thrillers and mysteries.

The thing I like most about this book was how non-traditional it was. Not everything ended tied up in pretty bows, not every character in love. It was quite realistic, in a way. It's paced very well, and there are a few curve balls that come out of nowhere. Overall, I'd recommend if you're looking for a thriller, mystery, or something a little darker.

I enjoyed this one, though I was personally unsatisfied with the ending.

I appreciated the character development of the protagonist and enjoyed the mystery aspect of the plot.

I wanted to get ahead of this one before the show version came out.

Just kind of a snooze-fest. The story was not very believable, the resolution was unsatisfying, and not a whole lot happened throughout the entirety of the book. The premise has potential but the execution disappointed.

A page turner but very unrealistic. A story about a woman whose husband gets wrapped up in something illegal and disappears and ends up being not who she thought he was. 3/5

🌟🌟🌟This was fairly unbelievable with irritating characters, especially Hannah. I gave it 3 stars because of the narrator, she was excellent. But the story was week. The mystery was lame and no person would turn help away and then go off and do all the investigation themselves like that. Sillinesss

Between a “pick” and “so-so” for me. It works more as a drama than a thriller, but I feel the blurb really pitches it to be a thriller, but there minimal bread crumbs to the twist. So the reveal is seemingly out of nowhere 😂 maybe I‘m off base, and it was just my preconceptions that tainted my perception.

Characters are likable and consistent enough, and it‘s a quick read.

This is one of the better suspense novels I‘ve read. It was hard to put down at times. The story involves some hard choices that had to be made. I‘m not sure I‘d be able to make the choice that the protagonist did at the end. I switched back and forth between the hardcopy book and audio version. I really enjoyed the narrator, Rebecca Lowman. I recommend this book. It was a quick, easy read.

I love these kinds of stories. Finding answers for a seemingly inexplicable event that leads to a full on investigation of who a person you thought you knew really is. All in all great story and still didn‘t end the way I thought it would.

The book was fine. Interesting at points. Not a fan of the ending. Maybe we can convince the author to write a second book from Owen's POV.

The ending ruined the entire book for me. It seemed like there was this big build up for nothing. And then a little tease at the end. I‘ll post my spoiler below. It was well written, but she could have went a million other directions with this. 3 stars

BooksNBowls I find the last chapter to be pretty unbelievable because a.) he would never risk his daughters safety by getting that close and b.) even if he did, she didn‘t try to talk to him at all?? I don‘t know if I could have let him walk away like that. I felt like he could have tried harder for them all to be together. But whatever, this was a disappointing story. 3mo

Loved this story and the detective work the disappeared man‘s daughter and wife had to do to figure out who they needed protecting from. Reminded me slightly of early John Grisham. Read this one quickly. It is going to be a limited series. Should be great.

This book did just not do it for me. I know that it is loved by so many, but for me it just fell flat. I was super disappointed in the mafia storyline. I was expecting something way more interesting. Also, the bit about Bailey‘s memory was just to implausible. I was expecting that to turn into a plot device, but it didn‘t, which made it just make no sense. It was a fast read (3 hours for me), but in the end it was just meh.

(2021) It's a thriller about an artist whose husband disappears when the start-up he works for melts down in a financial scandal. The husband leaves a message, telling her to protect his daughter. It's an engaging premise, and the execution is rapid-fire. It does what a thriller is supposed to.

BeaG I just finished this one. It was good. 5mo

So good! I couldn‘t wait to keep reading! It definitely reads more like a mystery than a thriller. It‘s wonderful unravelling the pieces of the mystery along with Hannah (the wife Owen, the man who has gone missing) and Bailey (Hannah‘s teenaged step-daughter/Owen‘s daughter). Why did Owen suddenly disappear leaving only money and a note telling Hannah to protect his daughter? The story is engaging and really comes down to the power of love.

This started out strong but became outlandish before the end. I can't imagine I would make many of the choices Hannah made after Owen disappeared but I at least found her perspective interesting. Overall I appreciated reading a story where the "love story" turns out to be a mother/ daughter relationship but I wanted to see more about how her husband's disappearance, and the revelations about him, affected her.

This book was reasonably enjoyable and the plot twists were just enough to keep me intrigued until the end. However I felt it lacked another voice and the choice of Hannah as the sole narrator meant you didn‘t get the opinions and thoughts of Owen and his daughter. An interesting choice considering the story centred around their lives. If you like thrillers it‘s not a bad choice. 3/5 stars.

There were moments I loved! I thought the main character was great. I enjoyed the setting, too. I kind of think there were things that didn't make sense, but maybe that's just a part of the mystery and also the faith the main character has. It was eh except for some great moments.
