Get a Life, Chloe Brown
Get a Life, Chloe Brown: A Novel | Talia Hibbert
Talia Hibbert, one of contemporary romances brightest new stars, delivers a witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman whos tired of being boring and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her get a lifeperfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang. Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almostbut not quitedying, shes determined to spice up her life and finally fit in with her glamorous family. Her Get a Life list has six directives, and shes already completed the first: finally moving out of her familys mansion. The next items? Enjoy a drunken night out. Ride a motorcycle. Go camping. Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex. Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage. And... do something bad. But its not easy being bad, even when youve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job. Redford Red Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. Hes also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit. But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloes wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior

I found myself favoring the story so much more from Red‘s point of view-I probably would have liked it more if it didn‘t take me 2 weeks to finish it. November was a super slow reading month for me!

I haven‘t really understood all of the Talia Hibbert hype. I found the books of hers that I read underwhelming but kept picking them up because there must be something I am missing. This book finally clicked for me. I loved the audio narration and the story of two people learning to love and trust in spite of their pasts. I really love that it is an interracial romance that deals with abuse and chronic illness and is so swoony and steamy.

✔ Move out of her family‘s mansion.
🔲 Enjoy a drunken night out.
🔲 Ride a motorcycle.
🔲 Go camping.
🔲 Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
🔲 Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
🔲 Do something bad.

I‘m having my own #partyofone tonight while @toddred29 works Black Friday @ Target (in electronics, no less). 😇 The son is off in video game land. So it‘s me, Chloe Brown and the crew from Nailed It hanging by the fire. 🍸

There‘s a quote in this book that I absolutely love and I think it sums this book up perfectly.
“I need you. I‘m desperate for you. I‘m something without you, and I‘ll survive without you, but I don‘t fucking want to, so Jesus, please don‘t make me.”
I so loved this book and how they each learn to deal with their shit. And I absolutely LOVED that their differences in race had not one damn thing to do with the story. Beautifully done!

Honestly, this book was such a breath of fresh air and EXACTLY what I needed!! Completely cliche in all the right places...sultry, HOT, and totally made me blush. LOVED IT!

Not all heroes wear capes, Chloe Brown! You keep doing you, sister, 'cause you're amazing. And Redford, WHOA!! Where do I find one of you?!! 😍

If you're in the mood for a fun, light, kinda naughty read - do NOT hesitate. Tore through this in a day and a half!

This was so much fun: A steamy romance that is body-positive, featuring a woman of color who has a chronic illness. Wow.

After a near-death experience Chloe makes a list of goals to accomplish in an effort to “get a life.” When she enlists the help of her building‘s handyman (and talented artist) she finds more than she expects.

This was a cute and thoughtful story. In her Author's Note before the story begins, Talia says that she hopes she treated her characters and us gently, in regards to the sensitive topic of healing after an abusive relationship, well this reader was pleased with how she handled it. This was a well crafted and well written book. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves romances, stories about healing and if you're in a reading slump. :)

When a near near-death experience causes Chloe's life to flash before her eyes she doesn't like what she sees. To avoid having the most dull eulogy ever given she sets out to get a life, by means of a to do list.
I appreciated that Chloe was not only a strong WOC but also has an invisible illness. Also Red's healthy mindset in regard to getting treatment for his mental health. Especially in today's society it should be normalized not stigmatized.

Texreader I could read your reviews just for fun! They are so well written and informative. Do you have a blog? You really need to consider finding a way to write book reviews for $ 2w
xxjenadanxx @Texreader aww thank you so much! I have actually been wanting to start a book blog but it's intimidating! I did create a bookstagram the other day but haven't posted anything for the same reason. 😂 2w

I'm bailing at 74%. There's still almost 3 hours in the audiobbook (only ~1:45 left at 1.6 playback speed). It's not cute enough to continue when very little has happened in the first ~7.5 hours (~4:45 at 1.6 playback speed).

JoyBlue I do give it a brownie point for this: “Chloe did not have the time for kerfuffles.“ 3w

It took me a while to really get into this book. However, I stuck with it because of all the glowing reviews and I‘m so glad I did. Chloe is trying to live life to its fullest while dealing with crippling chronic pain and Red is trying to rebuild his life after a previous abusive relationship broke him down. Although these are difficult topics this book left me feeling a lot of joy. I would definitely recommend!

This book made me feel seen. I have the same chronic illness as Chloe, and I have literally never related to a character more than I related to Chloe Brown. If you have any sort of chronic illness (or even if you don‘t), I can‘t recommend this book highly enough. It was funny, romantic, and honest. I couldn‘t put it down last night, and it‘s been a while since a book has made me feel like that!

I loved Red. I had to work extra hard to *not* be annoyed by Chloe, and honestly I‘m not entirely sure that the ending was enough for me to like her. (I need to think about how I feel about her, which is very telling.) Chloe has unending chronic pain. Red has anxiety and baggage from a past relationship.

Unpopular opinion: I liked it but I‘m not head over heels in love with it. Hard to focus on/enjoy the #romantsy parts with so many other issues.

Mhmm, I initially skipped my #BOTM box, but my birthday is on 11/11 and I wanted to use the birthday perk of getting a free add on, so I unskipped since I wanted to read That‘s What Frenemies Are For. What did you all get?

EKonrad I snagged the Leigh Bardugo one. Already had a couple of the other ones, so that was my pick. 😊 1mo
The_Heeler_Booklife @EKonrad I bought Ninth House a week ago and have an arc for the Lisa Jewel book, so that‘s why I originally skipped. I‘m glad they added Bardugo‘s book. 1mo

I hate to say this, but I really disliked this book. I felt the writing was just ok and the story extremely predictable. I also have to say I absolutely hated how someone dealing with fibromyalgia and that specific topic perpetuated the romance in this book. I know people who suffer from this, and I just thought that was extremely distasteful.

I know this book is getting a lot of buzz, but this one was not for me at all.
