If you have not read this gem, I highly recommend you do so!! Published in 1848 under the pseudonym Acton Bell, Anne Brontë invites the reader into a realistic (not romanticized) fiction in which she sheds light on alcoholism and abusive conduct through a woman‘s fight to gain freedom from her oppressive husband. Beautiful sensory details depicts the landscapes and emotions found within the story. It reads as if it were poetry.
This is a must read!! From the first sentence, it was a thrilling ride. I will carry a piece of this story with me everywhere I go. I consider myself henceforth, a rêveur.
This was a quick and enjoyable read. It is more of a simplified version of the movie and set in the 1950s. It didn‘t quite reach my expectations, but it was still a good read.
I greatly enjoy Hemingway‘s “Iceberg Theory” but could do without the racism and anti-semitism. Katharine Hepburn‘s voice seems to jump from Brett‘s dialogue which is very enjoyable to read. If you‘re looking for a plot driven book, this is not the one for you.
A curious novel. Many questions remain, however, Jackson‘s ability to keep the reader on edge is thrilling. Taking a glimpse inside of the protagonist‘s mind is a chilling experience and at times, hits close to home.
I devoured this novel, and yet, I am so conflicted in my review of it after doing research over the author and his handling of information. Yes, this is a book of fiction - and it is beautifully written - however, I believe there are sections that are misleading to true Japanese culture. I would absolutely recommend this book, but readers need to understand that it is fictional - which is confusing due to his sources being geishas themselves.
I highly recommend this book! Donna Tartt is one of my all-time favorite authors. Her detailed writing leaves me feeling as if I‘ve just experienced the most exquisite sight, taste, or smell. If you enjoy vivid imagery and a mysterious plot, this is the book for you.
I highly recommend this book! Trevor gives the reader an inside look into his life growing up during the apartheid in South Africa. Filled with his charming hilarity and chilling memories, he shares his unique perspective of the world at that time. Trevor‘s mother is such a crucial part of his life, and she will steal your heart! Her close walk with God is humbling.
What a novel! I enjoyed getting to know Tully and Kate on such a deep level and “watching” them grow and change into the women they came to be. I felt so many emotions throughout their entire journey. I feel that for many of us, we see ourselves as a “Tully” or a “Kate” which makes this book that much more personal.
This was given to me by a woman who owned a used book store in Little Rock, AR. She hands me this and says, “Free of charge. It‘s my favorite book in the whole store. I think you‘ll really like it.” She was correct! I couldn‘t put it down. This book will take you through time and bring you to a wonderful love story.
A masterpiece! This was my first book stepping out of the YA genre. My love for art history, antique furniture, young love, and a coming of age story are all mixed in this amazing novel. I highly recommend this book and anything written by Donna Tartt. "We have art in order not to die from the truth" - Nietzsche
A coming of age story. The author chooses a very vulnerable time in Esperanza's life where change is around every corner. Set in a low-income neighborhood in Chicago. Esperanza narrates in first-person present tense and she focuses on her day-to-day activities as well as observing others. I‘m glad that I read it, but it wasn‘t a favorite of mine.
A honest look into Maya Angelou's childhood experiences growing up in the South during the 30s and 40s. Prejudice. Abandonment. Courage. A must read!
Just wonderful! I want to be friends with Millie Michalchuk so bad!! I was a big fan of Dumplin', and Puddin' doesn't disappoint. It's so refreshing to read a book with characters like me.😊 #DollyParton
This will forever be an all-time favorite! I love the third person perspective. It allows you to fully understand what each character is going through on such a complex level. I really fell in love with these characters. Family struggles, coming of age, parental preference, poverty. What an amazing story!
I greatly enjoyed reading Atwood's, "The Testaments". The multi person perspective was very enjoyable and made it a quick read.
An eye-opening read. Alex Haley writes in a way that feels like you are there with Malcolm X, experiencing it all first hand.
What a wonderful read!! This book is set in the 1940s. The German occupation of the Channel Islands lasted for most of the Second World War. This is a fictional adaptation of that occupation. It was so enjoyable that it will always be one of my favorites! Delightful characters, wonderful plot, and a dash of romance.
I couldn‘t agree more with Mr. Simpless - life has a way of drawing you to things. ❤️
