Frida Kahlo | Isabel Thomas

A Spanish nonfiction biography aimed for children, but I think all Frida enthusiasts will enjoy this book. I even learned a few things about her that I didn‘t know. The text is not too heavy, and the illustrations are perfect. Some of Frida‘s art is a little strong, but this book is wonderful at still acknowledging the pain, but not too much as it is a children‘s book. #fridakahlo #mexicanartist #spanishbooks #isabelthomas #mariannamadriz

This story really is just like taking a bite of a yummy strawberry mochi 🍓🍡.. it‘s so sweet 🥲, cute 🥰, you want more 🤌🏽, & even the family dynamics in the storyline are a little delicate like mochi is. -it‘s a cute, touching book about finding ones passion & reconnecting to our roots while finding that passion. ♥️ 🇯🇵 #iloveyousomochi #sarahkuhn #ya #romance #socute #kyoto

Oh, Eleanor! How I wish I could hug you, even though that affection might confuse you! 😆 I didn‘t care for Eleanor at first, but that quickly changed & I adored her & felt like protecting her from it all. But she‘s strong & very capable of doing that herself.

A great story that has real LOL moments & other heartbreaking moments too. Reminds the reader how crucial love & friendship is.. how not to judge a person so quickly. Especially ourselves.

I love Mangoes & I love the moon; so that‘s what initially caught my eye. & then when I read the book... ufff! My heart! 😭💔-I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a picture book about deportation & how much it impacts families; especially the children. I do recommend this book.. borders might physically separate families, but they cannot stop the bond & love they have. #mangomoon #picturebook #dianedeanda #surcornelison #immigration #deportation

I heard so many good things about this book & although I found it a little slow at times, I‘m glad I finished it!

Set in Mexico during the 1950‘s, Noemi is sent to “High Place” to figure out what is going on with her cousin Catalina after she writes a cryptic letter to Noemi‘s father.. Once there, Noemi knows something is off & she is in for a big surprise.. a surprise that she might not want to know or be a part of. #mexicangothic #horror

Maggie feels as if she has been haunted by a famous horror book her father wrote that‘s about their scary experiences living in a haunted house when she was a child. -she doesn‘t recall any of it & thinks the entire book is a lie. She goes back to the house in hopes of renovating it to sell it & finding some real truth. Only the truth is scarier than what she could‘ve ever imagined.

A good way to start off the spooky Halloween season. 🎃👻

As others have mentioned, this book is good & everyone should read it as it is about a natural thing; menstruation. 4 young girls deal with high school life & everything that comes with periods.. I think all middle school girls should read this graphic novel! It‘s very informative & inspiring! Specially the character Abby! 😻-she‘s so passionate & brave! She goes out of her way to ensure all restrooms have free sanitary items. #gowiththeflow #🩸

At first, I felt the book is awful long, but it‘s so well written that I was done before I knew it & felt so sad that I had finished it already. -this is a beautiful book that covers many topics; racism, love, sexuality, gender identity, family matters & societal expectations.

A quote that made me chuckle cause of how relatable it is during COVID, “her days blended together, refracting each other, as if she were trapped in a hall of mirrors.."

This is the first Manga book I‘ve ever read & it‘s a cute storyline!! Komi literally cannot verbally communicate & everyone @ her school thinks she‘s popular & she‘s someone they all admire.. Tadano quickly realizes what‘s wrong with Komi & decides to help her make 100 friends!! -I can‘t wait to read the other books & see what mess Tadano gets in from trying to help Komi without making her feel uncomfortable #manga #komicantcommunicate

I normally don‘t read comics, but once I found out Gabby Rivera wrote one, I had to give them a read! I loved it! I especially loved the college she‘s attending “Sotomayor U” & all the references to listening to our ancestors as well. #gabbyrivera #americachavez #marvel

I loved this story for so many reasons; the characters, the growth of Juliet.. & how I even saw bits of myself a few times throughout the book! Oh & the mention of libraries & librarians had me geeking out!

Juliet is 19; curious about the world, & what it means to be a brown lesbian. Her curiosity & ability to love deeply makes the story engaging. It‘s so beautifully written; readers might find it healing. I did! #juliettakesabreath #gabbyrivera

JamieArc I loved this one too and am happy when I see other people on Litsy love it. I really hope this author writes more! 4y
Librarian_Meli @JamieArc yes! it‘s so good! I know she has comic books! I‘m gonna read those next! 4y

Bri wants to be a famous rapper, not only to help her family out financially, but also because she has a true love for music. She knows that rap music is more than just about rhyming words with catchy hooks, but it's about telling the stories & lives that impact us. Things that happen in inner cities. -It's a really good story about realizing who you are, what you're capable of, & how your past mistakes don't define you or your worth. #onthecomeup

I normally don‘t read romance novels, so I don‘t have much to compare it to, but I still think this story is so cute! I often found myself laughing out loud at the dialogue between Chloe & Red! & definitely “aww-ing” as well! Chloe felt she had to change who she was in order to actually live & not just exist, but her interactions with Red made her think differently! Very cute read! #getalifechloebrown #taliahibbert #romancenovel

This is more of a graphic novel & I think it‘s from Spain, so I didn‘t completely understand some parts/phrases.. but the overall message is that all women are “real women”.. whether they choose to follow society‘s expectations of them or not. It‘s done so in a comical/sarcastic way & I often giggled in some parts.. I think it‘s a fun, quick read to a serious topic. #rociosalazar #realwomen

Woven in Moonlight | Isabel Ibaez

I loved the cover for this book & was immediately intrigued by it. The story did not disappoint & I was very much enthralled by Ximena & her weaving powers, her mission to overthrow a usurper King, & find a magical gem that gives mortals too much power.. However, the story is much more than that.. it's about being brave enough to accept that maybe what we've believed our whole lives isn't true/right & have a change of heart. ✨💕#woveninmoonlight

A fun story about 4 best friends that take friendship very seriously & are always there for each other. I liked that they‘re all different, but the friendships are genuine. One of these four becomes the future president of the U.S. & the reader doesn‘t find out until the end. -my guess kept changing throughout the story, but I wasn‘t surprised or disappointed in who ends up being Madam President! #mostlikely #audiobook #sarahwatson #friendship

A cute & relatable montage for all book lovers! I smiled & giggled all throughout the book & felt I found someone to relate to about the magic that books have. They comfort you, educate, introduce you to eccentric people, etc. It's not all fun & games, though... There‘s hardships of being an avid book lover; such as not having enough time to read your books, or even worse... not having anyone to talk to about the great book you just finished!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love this one! 4y

I appreciate everything that is written because it has a wonderful message about accepting ourselves, and how to deal with anxiety. However, the book has comics that are awkwardly placed in the middle of every chapter. I still enjoyed reading it & it made me feel as if I'm not alone too. She has a great way of putting into words complicated feelings & thoughts that come with dealing with anxiety and depression. It was unexpectedly deep. #bethevans

Lovely picture book with beautiful illustrations that sends a positive message about being different. In life you‘ll sometimes feel like you don‘t belong & discouraged to be yourself, but once you do.. you‘ll see how even though we may have differences, we still have similarities. Our differences are what make us special.

Good story about the importance of family, without being too pushy. The lessons & events lead up to Anamay (protagonist) realizing that family, loyalty, & humility are some of the most important things in life.
