Had a grand day in Dublin. Started an appropriate book AND did the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl tour hosted by actors Kevin and Frank. All the love. Afterwards visiting over whisky I told them I might cajole some fellow literary lovers into a Joyce readalong. Ulysses, anyone?

arlenefinnigan Aw I loved the Dublin Literary pub crawl. Ulysses is.....a challenge. 😂 8mo
arlenefinnigan Have you been to Trinity College library to see the Book of Kells? 8mo
SamAnne @arlenefinnigan we did the tour this morning. If I could it other I‘d do the Beatty Museum or something else. Way too tourista and packed out. Had a lovely time at the National Gallery of Art. Now having a pint at Kennedys where so many writers hung out and where Oscar Wilde had his first job. Sitting next to fanatical James Joyce readers—one woman has read it 9 times and participated in regular readalongs. Love this city! 8mo

I'm doing a rereading of some of my favorite classics and reading a couple I've never read. This was my classics book haul from work today! #readtheclassics

Cinfhen I‘ve always meant to read this one but you know me and classics!!! 11mo
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen did you watch BBC Sherlock/Fleabag? The Penguin Classics edition on Audible is narrated by Andrew Scott (Moriarty/Hot Priest). I'd skip the introduction but this might work for you, as I know (?) audio is your preferred format. I did it on audio as Scott is a Dubliner, & thought what better way to read the book for this prompt?! 😂 11mo

#weeklyforecast @Cinfhen

Continue Count!
Finish Dubliners and The Splendid and the Vile.
Maybe start another one, but don't know what yet!

Cinfhen Way to go ☺️ 11mo
Pip2 Be honest, how are you liking Dubliners? Have you read Ulysses? I only ask because I did not care for Ulysses and want to know if it is worth the attempt at trying out Dubliners. 11mo
jenniferw88 @Pip2 I haven't read Ulysses. I'm doing the audio of the penguin classic edition, which is narrated by Andrew Scott (BBC's Moriarty), so quite enjoying it. Only one stand out story so far, but have 2 hours to go. I'd skip the intro though if you go down this route or read this edition! 11mo

Pip2 Penguin does seem to have the better translations for the most part. I am reading the Canterbury tales Penguin classic and it is more comprehensible than the modern library edition that I had initially began with. 11mo
jenniferw88 @Pip2 When I was studying Jane Austen at Uni, we all had to have the Penguin Classic or Oxford World Classics for our editions. 11mo
Pip2 Do you have a preference for Penguin over Oxford? 11mo
jenniferw88 @Pip2 No, but found it useful to know what editions my professors preferred. There's too much choice with classic editions! 11mo

#bookreport and #weeklyforecast @Cinfhen

Continued Count (I worked out today that I will finish this about mid July so you've got a few more months of seeing it I'm afraid!)
Continued In the Shadows of Vesuvius on Kindle.
Changed my audiobook to Dubliners as it's narrated by BBC Sherlock's Andrew Scott, who is a native of the city!

AlaMich Count took me forever but it was worth it! 12mo
Cinfhen Reading the classics 😅 12mo
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen yep! Count is my historical fiction prompt choice for multiple challenges (as well as #wronglyincarceratedmc 😉). Dubliners does #shortstorycollection (😉) and #setindublin #52bookclub23 12mo
Cinfhen Amazing, Jenny! They work for many challenges 💜 12mo

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm

1. I'm going to say Ireland. I've been to Hawaii several times and all over the Caribbean, so I don't really need another tropical island in my life.

2. If it's Ireland, I guess Dubliners? To be honest probably none, since I won't be spending much time there lounging on the beach 😄

TheSpineView I too have been to Hawaii and all over the Caribbean. The Aleutian Islands would be a great destination. Thanks for playing 2y

These short stories were a lot more accessible than I remembered them to be. I actually enjoyed a couple of these everyday life stories but as a whole I still didn‘t care for them much. Joyce is just not my cup of tea.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3y
DivineDiana Agree! 👏🏻📚👏🏻 3y
mrp27 @DivineDiana I agree that The Dead was one of the better stories, I liked it. 3y
