And this is why my #TBR is never ending…I want to read the book referenced here. Is it an addiction or obsession? 🤔
The Book DRAMA is based on a stage show rehearsal involving teenage students. A girl named Callie, always dreamed to be a singer for theater play, but cannot sing properly. The book explains the journey of Callie becoming the singer she wants to be along with the obstacles she faces on the way.
What a great book! Callie is on stage crew for a new production at her middle school. As she works to bring her set ideas to life (within budget) she‘s also juggling some serious crush problems (like boys suck). Love the characters. Frequently banned for depicting gay teens. #52Books #bannedbook
I love Telgemeier. The annoying younger sibling... 🤣🤣
This was a soft pick for me. I really liked how well it captured the camaraderie of a theater department, I see why kids relate to these characters & their problems. I did think the sense of urgency I remember about life at that age didn‘t really come through, I struggled to understand what about this pushes it onto banned book lists year after year. I assume it‘s about teenage sexuality, but mentions of that (both gay & straight) are so tame⬇️
Our school board is currently reviewing 16 books that may be pulled from our media centers. A few I‘ve already read, and I‘m trying to get to a couple of them per month. This one came off of my daughter‘s shelf, so it‘s an easy place to start. #bookspinbingo
This was a reread for me. I‘ve already read this more times than I can count, but I thought I‘d add one more in hope of #BannedBookWeek . This was banned for having LGBTQIA+ characters in two school districts in Texas and challenged strongly in many others. This is one of my favorite graphic novels. 5⭐️

Ever since I found a whole bunch of old comic books, I‘ve been itching to read a graphic novel.?Who‘s got a recommendation??
.
Depuis que j'ai trouvé tout un tas de vieilles bandes dessinées, j‘ai une envie folle de lire un roman graphique.?Qui a une recommandation ??
HA continued for the whole day (off and on sleeping) and well this morning. The thing that sucks (well a lot sucks) but I cant sleep in. Like I have been up super early trying to not die. Anyway, finished this one (between last night and this morning)... Its a super cute little story! #PrideMonth :)

Such a sweet lovely book! I loved it ☺️😍 Read as part of Pre- Boardgame for the @DeweysReadathon #deweys24hourreadathon and as a prompt for the @popsugarreading #popsugarreadingchallenge2021 5/5
Next graphic novel to read.
This book is fiction
My love for this book is so big. This book talks about topics that not so many“children”authors do talk about. This book is about a girl names Callie who had to deal with typical crushes and friendships. Its a comingofage book that I recommend kids my age should read.
I can reallyrelate alot with this book.Im in middle school I can relate to what Callie has gone through. But I know its a part of life and we should learn from it.
I'm very behind on posting reviews, but I did complete the Summer prompts for #Booked2020! On to the Fall!
13. Red/White/Blue type on cover: Grown-up Pose by Sonya Lalli
14. Eccentric MC: The City We Became by NK Jemisin
15. YA novel by a POC: Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera
16. #WineorWhine: The Dark Vineyard by Martin Walker
17. Banned Book: Drama by Raina Telgemeier
18. Armchair Travel: The Man with the Black Valise by John Goddard
#bannedbooks #minireviews I‘ve finished my first three books for banned books week. And Tango Makes Three was a cute story, but the text was a little dry, especially for a children‘s book (so-so rating). Captain Underpants was hysterical (pick), and I loved Drama, although even my high school didn‘t put on productions that ornate, let alone my middle school! It‘s a pick, too.
The idea of banning books is so ridiculous to me. All three of these were banned in certain schools for having “inappropriate” material. I hope we some day get to a place where that doesn‘t happen anymore. These were all excellent!

A really enjoyable read about a group of dedicated and talented middle grade students involved in their school‘s theatre production. Strong and relatable cast of characters, great art work, and talks about tweens/teenage problems, including sexual identity. Fun to read, perfect for drama/theatre kids.
#Booked2020 #bannedbook
This was a cute middle-grade graphic novel about theater nerds and refreshingly, the drama was very much the stuff of day-to-day life. I loved the inclusion of LGBTQ characters and the way in which Callie and her other friends were so passionate about their love of theater. It was a very soothing, undemanding read and just what I needed before bed these past few nights.
4.5 ⭐
I really enjoyed this cute comic about drama club, productions, and set crews. I connected with the characters, as they felt like real people with feelings and flaws.
This is my pick for #bannedbook in #booked2020

Here‘s my TBR for #NewYearWhoDis. So excited to see so many interesting titles! A few were already ones I‘d read, some I‘ve been wanting to read, and some were completely new to me. Thanks @MatchlessMarie for a great list! @monalyisha #newyearnewbooks #tbrlists
She randomly grabbed the tagged book off a shelf and insisted we check it out. When we got outside, she sat down and said "Shoo Mama, I'm reading," then sat there quietly turning the pages and looking at the pictures.
Guess I'm doing something right.

Drama is like it's title - it is about drama class and how the kids always mess up. Everytime they start to show it to people, they mess it up and the teacher gets mad at them! They keep trying to fix their mistakes. The tone of the book tells us that we can do anything we set our minds to. If you like books that have drama (as a school subject) you'll like this book!
This was utterly charming. A perfect fit for a theatre-loving middle schooler. A delightful read.

I worked on stage crew in middle and high school, and absolutely love this GN about a group of teens working on their school musical. Great representation.
I was constantly frustrated at the parent‘s at my daughter‘s school that complained about this book being in the school library (the school did not remove it). I have a theater kid, so she finds this story really relatable!

My porch reading buddy. 😻 She‘s settled down in her old age, and is content with being lifted into a chair to hang out with us, rather than running off to eat grass (and throw up). 😂 #catsoflitsy #Isabel
This was a cute graphic novel about a girl in middle school who helps out with the theater stage at school. There's angst love, confusing signs with the kids, jealousy, vanity... you know all the makings of drama in a middle school (not including the drama happening on stage). Poor Callie has the worst of luck with the boys but she makes it through somehow. Definitely worth reading whether you are in school or older like me. 4 stars.
So I actually REALLY loved this GN. It was absolutely adorable. The characters, the relationships, the LGBTQ+ representation... Perfection. It makes me want to rush out and get my hands on a copy of the author's other book! 5🌟
Also, can we just appreciate these glasses? They're loud, obnoxious, and FANTASTIC.

I am actually mad that this book had been banned and challenged so many times!
This is a fantastic graphic novel about a group of teenagers who are in their school play. Together they create the set, run lines, work on costumes, build friendships, and learn to be brave about who they are as individuals. I loved it! I will reread it, and I will definitely recommend it ♥️

This graphic novel is a love letter to the time, skills, and passion that go into school theater performances. Callie has to navigate being set manager, including designing a cannon to "explode" satisfyingly without pyrotechnics, along with her friendships and crushes. All of this is fraught with the intensity of middle school hormones in a realistic way.
PopSugar Reading Challenge 2019: a book with unconventionally numbered chapters
I just returned this one the other day. This book was adorable. I would have loved it when I was in middle school theater.
Another great book by RT! Loved the storyline and all of the characters ☺️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I went and hung out at the Barnes and Noble cafe last night. I wanted to read something for #Booked2019 #DiverseMiddleGrade While I sat there and read Drama, and really enjoyed it, I also found a book (not for the category) called Invisible Emmie that I absolutely loved, and ended up buying. I haven‘t read a middle grade book in years, and now I‘ve read two of them. I loved this category!!
This is a fantastic graphic novel! It addresses dating and homosexuality in a real, age appropriate for MG way. It also addresses cheating on tests, breakups, and new friendships. The background in the story is the dedication of the stage crew putting on a middle school musical. Highly recommend for kids and adults! 5⭐️ #diversemiddlegrade
I‘ve been wanting to read this, so in celebration, this will be my #diversemiddlegrade for #booked2019! #graphicnovel #middlegrade
