This beautiful story hooked me right away. I couldn't stop asking myself, "What is going on here?!" It was a relatively quick read and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced copy!

Truly, this is my kind of thriller, set with the rich history of a time and culture long past. The story is woven so delicately, without gory detail or cheap tricks. The romance (which I will leave a mystery for you all!) is hinted at in a really poetic way. Once I got into this book I absolutely couldn‘t put it down. 4 / 5

World That We Knew | Alice Hoffman

The reason I will always return to Alice Hoffman books is the overwhelming sense of magic, spirituality, and mystique that she evokes. She writes in such descriptive language that it almost feels like poetry. This was an inventive story, and a new way of telling events that we may think we already know.

Thank you so much to Simon and Schuster for my advanced copy of this loveliness!

This story offers the chance to glimpse what it was like for women in Asia during the early 1900‘s. Without a husband or father‘s permission, the women in this book are seen as powerless. You will love Ji Lin who, despite these challenges, perseveres. This book is romantic and mysterious in the highest order. I couldn‘t predict at all what would happen and really enjoyed it!

This book truly doesn't need a synopsis. If you like Tolkien or George R.R. Martin, IMHO, you'll enjoy it. What made this book so great:

1. It was a standalone, versus being a series.
2. The women were featured!
3. The women didn't NEED NO MAN. LOL. They were independent. Their strength and character was more vital to the story!
4. The battles didn't take up a dominant portion of the story either. Full review at http://tinyw.in/XUnM

This book is great... just like everyone says! You probably don't need our recommendation if Reese Witherspoon says its good... however, definitely listen to it as an audiobook! It has a full cast including Jennifer Beals and Benjamin Bratt, and having different characters reading adds such a depth to the story.

Truly a great story and a REALLY great audiobook. Full review at http://tinyw.in/Ore4

I loved the cover of this book. It's what drew me in, and the first 75% percent of the book was exciting and gripping. But as a mother, I find it impossible that two women could give birth on the same day, in the same home, unassisted. Then, that Laura's babies were pre-mature and neither needed hospital care? And why didn't the police officers notice that there were two birth locations that needed cleaning? Yikes.

It might just be that this book was written just for me, but I absolutely loved it. A marriage of Pride and Prejudice + Pakistani culture?! It was so perfect and lovely. Hilarious. And honestly, the concept couldn‘t have fit together in any better way. It was such a refreshing way to compare and contrast women‘s rights in modern times.

I tend to think that a book deserves 5 stars when it‘s un-put-downable. I had heard from others that this book fit that category, and sure enough, read it in less than 24 hours.

It‘s utterly gripping and disturbing— a book you can‘t tear your eyes from, asking yourself, “What the freak is going on here?!” If you‘ve ever read a thriller and enjoyed it, you‘ll enjoy this book

This book had me giggling, full out laughing, and even crying at times. You'll fall in love first with the relationship between James and Mrs. Onassis, but you'll stick with the book as Jackie guides James in healing his relationship with his mother. There are shocks around every corner, but the surprises are so overwhelmingly human.

Becks and I love, love, loved Sally Thorne's first romance novel, The Hating Game. It was uproarious. Well, Sally is back with a vengeance. 99 Percent Mine brings the snarky humour and sexy appeal of The Hating Game by introducing us to the Barrett twins and their "adoptive" sibling Tom Valeska. The chemistry is palpable and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Full Review at https://goo.gl/H4sEUp

I really enjoyed the start to this series and can‘t wait to see what happens to Ophelia! It felt more sophisticated than is typical of the genre— like a Euro-chic fantasyland without pandering to young adults. I can‘t wait to read the second instalment later this year!

Read this story about Wes Ballot, a boy abandoned by nearly all who should have been unmoving in his life. I don‘t want to tell you much about his story, other than that as his finds himself, it will make you consider things about yourself as well. A beautiful, harrowing story of love and loss.

Woah. This book is a shocking reprieve from every book I've read that plays it safe. It tells the story of a woman in New York City who seemingly has it all-- beauty, body, brains... and an inheritance. Full review at thebookbabes.ca/home/my-year-o… #BookReviews #books

This book was so beautiful and raised many existential questions in my heart. My reason for giving the book 4 instead of 5 stars, is that it made me sad to read about Joy‘s years of loving Jack, when her love was not reciprocated. She embodies such strength as a wife, mother, poet and writer, but as a lover she came across as weak. I also have trouble idealizing their love story when he made her feel so rejected. #netgalley

The beginning of the book held everything I adore in a book: fantasy without being predictable, mystery and magic, and a female lead character.
Then suddenly, I felt I could no longer follow the story!
1) Fatima somehow finds the island, even though she isn't in possession of the map?!
2) When she washes up on shore, she seemingly has no concern for where Hassan and Gwennec are.
3). Fatima is the Bird King?! This was SUCH a reach for me!
