Lethal White
Lethal White | Robert Galbraith
Lethal White is the fourth book in the Cormoran Strike series from the international bestselling author Robert Galbraith. "I seen a kid killed]€]He strangled it, up by the horse." When Billy, a troubled young man, comes to private eye Cormoran Strike's office to ask for his help investigating a crime he thinks he witnessed as a child, Strike is left deeply unsettled. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed, and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic. Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott"€"once his assistant, now a partner in the agency"€"set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside. And during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward

I barely had time to read the past few days which was torturous with this book waiting for my attention. I practically raced home today to finish the last 50 pages. I loved this book and the series has really convinced me to give mysteries another try while I wait for more Cormoran and Robin. If anyone had recommendations for something similar I would be interested.

Fourth book of the series. Great to read on vacation - long enough to last the whole time, but on iPad to not have to lug around. Smart enough to keep me interested and easy enough to read whole in beach mode!

Holy Mother of God, is there an editor anywhere with balls enough to do their job and actually *edit* J.K. Rowling? I listened to this for 10 hours then checked to see how much remained. 13 hours, people! The print edition is 700 pages! For a mystery! Best thing about the audio was the narrator, who makes Strike sound like Hagrid.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Zipped though this series and I‘m totally hungover. I‘ll miss Strike and Robin; their brains and tension. Rowling‘s mysteries keep you guessing, and though you might be partially right, you don‘t really know shit. I love that. Then, Strike finds a way to spell it all out for you. I like that, too. I‘m not a series person, but I‘m happy I gave these a chance. Book 4 might be the best yet. So intricate (yet could‘ve been edited down a bit).

britt_brooke PS. Glenister‘s audio narration is outstanding! (edited) 4mo
MallenNC I still have to read this one! I like the series a lot but agree about the editing. 4mo
britt_brooke @MallenNC They‘d be 5 stars if some of those mundane details disappeared. Still, I can‘t wait for book 5 .... whenever that will be. 4mo

britt_brooke @rwmg Yes, book 3 was too dark and grisly for my taste. Strike and Robin are the only reason I liked it. I usually skip books with that much violence against women because it freaks me out. 4mo

Wow, this was a long one! Robert Galbraith is one of the only authors whose plot I struggle to figure out. So many twists and turns that ANYONE could be the perpetrator! I‘m so glad I‘ve read this, but also sad as it‘ll be ages until the next Strike book is released. I really hope they make it into the next part of the miniseries as the previous ones were very well done.

I‘ve been thinking about this plot line on and off all afternoon as I was out and about. It isn‘t too often that this happens, but this is partly because I read so fast that I don‘t usually take long to steam through!

The mug is a gift from one of my students. She knows I love tea! I don‘t actually drink green tea, so it actually contained creme brûlée white hot chocolate this time, which is possibly the nicest thing I‘ve ever tasted ☕️ ? ?

I‘m not sure if it‘s a coincidence (although probably not with JK Rowling) but there‘s a lot of mentions of colour in this one, mainly in description of the characters‘ clothing. I think this is more apparent than other books in the series. It got me thinking about the colour theory in Breaking Bad and if there‘s any kind of similar thing going on, particularly knowing how JK Rowling likes to use foreshadowing. Also, a possible link to the title?

Had a few spare hours after the end of the Silverstone Classic event so finished this one.

It‘s my favourite so far of the Strike novels.

More than half the people have left the campsite now, but we‘re not going until tomorrow morning. At least our ‘neighbours‘ have gone so we should sleep better - they liked playing music VERY LOUD until about midnight 😠

And it‘s a lovely sunset and we had a yummy pizza from the campsite foodie area! 😁 🍕

Interesting concept and creatively woven plot. Cormoran the curmudgeon, who runs his private investigation agency, is as grumpy as ever and Robin, his assistant investigator, is a hot mess. Tensions are high based on personal drama and professional challenges. But good god it could be cut in half by losing the repetition and still have over 300 pages. A bit more editing would have helped to tighten things up and pick up the pace.

In this one there is a lot more emphasis on Robin and Strike's relationship than there is on crime solving. So if you don't care about that, you won't like it. I happen to be attached to them, so it kept me entertained. And I must say, I hate Matthew. It does feel drawn out and longer than it has to be. I got really into the mystery portion towards the end and I liked the outcome. I'm looking forward to the next one.

A little longer than I think it needed to be but still an enjoyable mystery. I hope in future the series figures out a way to have a great story without again having the lead female character Robin needing to be “rescued” by lead male character Cormoran. Getting a bit repetitive on that front.

All caught up with the Cormoran Strike series! This one seemed mildly lengthy and a little more confusing near the end with all the many subplots coming together quickly, but I still enjoyed it. Really liking the sexual tension between Cormoran and Robin, even though he is a bit of a jerk when it comes to his female conquests. After reading these all back-to-back, now I feel kind of lost not having another one lined up in the queue.

For day 6 of #30JuneBooks I have 2 bookworm problems in one!
1. I hate when authors change publishers mid-series, and then they change the cover. It's just wrong. 😖
2. I rarely lend books. I lent my sister a stack while she was temporarily sober (Lethal White being one of them) and had to fight her creepy bf to get them back before she sold them for drugs. She did a number on them, including losing this dust jacket. 😑 TMI, but that's life.

Schlinkles Amen to both those things! I don‘t lend books, but my husband will and rarely do they return in the same condition they left. 6mo

This is the 4th in the Cormoran Strike series and it‘s just as addictive to read as the previous 3. I always have an issue with series and how the author fills in the ‘new‘ reader with the back story that the committed reader knows/remembers. ‘Robert‘ does a decent job with this, adding details in a natural manner. It would be better if I hadn‘t just inhaled the 3rd book and have everything front and centre in my brain 😂 time for the tv show now

I read about 2/3 of this when it came out, but then "over savored" and couldn't remember the plot details enough to get back into it, so I started anew on audio book. The latest installment of the series did not disappoint, and I appreciated that it didn't have the too over the top gore / shock value of some of the previous installments. I loved being reunited with Strike and Robin!

This was my least favourite of the Cormoran Strike books - which is not to say I didn't like it - just that they will, won't they between Robin and Strike is just dragging on too long and not terribly interesting to me. I did quite like the mystery part of it though.
