Falling Up Special Edition: With 12 New Poems | Shel Silverstein

Falling Up is a wonderful poetry book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. This ALA Booklist Editors‘ Choice winner includes 144 poems. This would be great as a RA because poetry isn‘t always understood by everyone so it would provide stopping points for the teacher to check for comprehension. #UCFLAE3414F17

MeghanW Poems are not usually my favorite, but he just does an amazing job! His poems are funny and relatable with is great for students to get connected. Reading slower gives students the opportunity to understand and reflect on what is being said. 7y

Green Eggs & Ham: 48 Pieces Floor | Dr. Seuss

Green Eggs and Ham is a picture book written by Dr.Seuss and illustrated by Aristedes Ruiz. This book focuses on Sam trying to get an unnamed character to try green eggs and ham. This book would be great as a CR (Choral Reading) because it rhymes a lot and it‘s sing-songy which will be easy for the student to catch on to. #UCFLAE3414F17

This Goodreads Choice Awards Best Picture Books winner is about the crayons coming back home and all of the things that they have experienced will away. Eclipse = Eclipse | Stephenie Meyer

Eclipse is the third book in the well known Twilight Saga and is written by Stephanie Meyer. This book focuses on Bella, a human, life being threatened by a group of vampires (which is normal for her by now). laurie_jayy UDL 5.1 “Use multiple media for communication” is a great UDL to go along with Eclipse because there is a movie to go along with the book. So after reading the book, students can be shown the movie.
EL 24. “Incorporate the culture and the language of second language learners in your curriculum.” I can also have this book in another language in case the ESOL student can‘t read English or need assistance. 7y

This amazing novel is written by John Green and follows the life of 16 year old cancer patient Hazel Lancaster. The Fault in Our Stars would be a great book for an LC because this book includes events that could take place in real life. #UCFLAE3414F17

MeghanW I absolutely love this book and movie! I can‘t remember the number of times I cried. It was to touching and not what I expected it to turn out to be. I think this would be a great LC book so students can discuss about it. I know it would‘ve been nice to talk to someone about the book who knew what I was talking about! 7y

This amazing book follows a day in the life of Alexander, a terrible, horrible, no good day that is. This book has won multiple awards one of which is the ALA Notable Children's Book.

This book provides the retelling of the African-American tale about a man with great strength and outstanding skills in the art of mountain digging. EL 20. “List the most important words and phrases you use or plan to use in a presentation on a transparency or on the chalkboard” will be great to use so that students will know what to look for while reading and have clarification on some words that they may run into. 7y

cheyennewilliams While I have not read this adaptation, I do love this particular story. It would be great for teaching students about African American history. I posted about Henry‘s Freedom box which could be utilized to teach the same thing. I think these books could work well together within a unit. (edited) 7y

This allows students to get involved with the lesson and the teacher can check for comprehension. 7y

EL 45 “Use Venn diagrams to contrast and compare activities.” The students could compare and contrast the two sisters that the book focuses on.

This book tells the true story of 6 year old Ruby Bridges, an African-American girl, who attended a whites-only school. It won the ABC Children‘s Award. EL 6 “Continually monitor students‘ comprehension.” Stopping & asking questions will not only benefit EL‘s but the class as a whole. It is important to make sure that students understand what they‘re reading. 7y

This historical fiction book takes place in Oakland, California during the summer of 1968. This book was written by Rita Williams-Garcia has won the Coretta Scott King Award, the Newberry Award, & the Scott O‘dell award. This would be great as a Literature Circle. #UCFLAE3414F17

EL #36 which states “assign short reaching for hw” would be great to use & then LC‘s can discuss the reading together. 7y

Wonder is a Realistic Fiction book that has appeared New York Best Times Best Seller & is written by R.J. Palacio. This book would be great for a Literature Circle, allowing students to go into deep discussions about the book. This book focuses on Auggie, a student with an extremely rare facial deformity.

UDL 6.1 focuses on guiding appropriate goal setting. An appropriate goal for this book can be to choose kind which is 1 of Palicio‘s goals.
