Nothing Happened | Molly Booth

Much Ado About Nothing is one of my favorite plays, and I‘m a sucker for Shakespeare modernizations in general. This MAAN adaptation is set in a summer camp with all the main characters as camp counselors and lots of queer and POC representation, and it is just SO exactly up my alley.

Mehso-so

I was pretty into this audiobook almost the whole way through - it was a satisfying mystery/suspense with lots of twists, and although I did guess a few of them I like that because it makes me feel smart when I‘m right. HOWEVER I was really annoyed with the ending, which bumped it down to a “so-so” rating. Mild spoilers in the comments.

leslieisreading I will admit that the ending was foreshadowed, it didn‘t just come out of nowhere, but I still found it very annoying because it seemed like the author just really wanted a big shocker of an ending when I didn‘t feel like the book needed it, just felt like it was trying too hard to go out with a bang, and it was unsatisfying to me. 6y

Happy New Year! I technically finished my first book of 2018 this morning (tagged), but since I read about 95% of it in 2017 I‘m not going to let it count. As a testament to how bad my slump was, it took me over a month to finish this book, by one of my favorite authors! I‘m feeling motivated, and ready to bust the slump.

I‘ve been in a reading slump since the last few weeks have been filled with buying a house and moving in to it - stress makes me lazy and I mostly turned to TV and my phone during my down time. Things are settling down a little though, and I‘m hoping my library book haul will help get me back into good reading habits!

Fun to listen to Christmas-time sexy shenanigans in the snow while walking through another sunny December day in California.

Melissa_J I‘m quite envious of the warm temperature this picture conveys 😊 6y

The only thing wrong with Anne of Green Gables on audio was that it was over much too soon! While I wait for one of my three holds on Anne of Avonlea to come in (my library has three different audio versions on Overdrive and I‘m working the system 😝), I moved on to this fun and rather silly paranormal romance with modern day Vikings to distract my anxious mind as closing day on my house slowly gets closer.

Started a new audiobook! I was unsure about doing this one on audio, as there‘s no way I could have processed Ancillary Justice in this format. Though this book is set in the same world, the style is very different and doesn‘t take the same amount of focus to comprehend. So far it‘s great on audio!

KateFulfordAuthor @leslieisreading perhaps you could consider my debut? Reviews are saying: “I loved this book more than I initially thought I would. Fulford infuses her characters with intense personalities that are prone to clashing with those of others. I loved Eve from the very beginning..." I‘m nervous about my new audiobook, but I‘ve been curious about it since it first came out and I heard about the full cast. I‘ve been putting it off but my book club picked it, so now it‘s time to dive in!

ReadingSusan I bailed on the print so I think I am going to try the audio. 6y
leslieisreading @ReadingSusan I listened to the first 40 minutes this morning, and it‘s definitely unusual but I‘m mostly able to follow it, and it has a rhythmic quality that I find fairly mesmerizing. Though that can cause my mind to wander I also kind of dig it so far. I haven‘t looked at the print version but I have a feeling it would drive me crazy. 6y

Megabooks 😀😀 6y
leslieisreading @bookwrm526 I don't disagree but they kind of freak me out! This time they were far enough away and highly visible but sometimes I'll round a corner and they'll be RIGHT THERE and ack! 6y
bookwrm526 @leslieisreading I totally get that. My mom to this day tells a story about being out hunting one night and getting lost in the dark, so she started walking trying to find the road, ended up in this open field, walked about halfway through it and startled a flock of sleeping turkeys that all took wing, scared her half to death 6y

New audiobook! I love smart, funny contemporary romance, so this is right up my alley but the career competition aspect gives me low level anxiety. 😬 Still, so fun!

MarriedtoMrT The career competition part is what has kept me from picking it up. Truly competitive relationships give me the metaphorical hives. 6y
leslieisreading @MarriedtoMrT I'm not finding the competition in the relationship to be that bad - mostly wacky hijinks that doesn't get too mean spirited, and they always really like each other. It's the sexist, manipulative boss who is truly causing me anxiety. Ack! 6y

So this book was basically Marty Sue wish fulfillment that used pop culture references as a substitute for actual plot development. But even though it was annoying it was also a lot of fun. And Wil Wheaton's narration was good.

So far this book is about 1/3 fun and 2/3 🙄- I get it, you like pop culture from the 1980s!

Bklover I had this reaction too. I actually bailed on it, thinking I would try another time. It was making me crabby. 6y
leslieisreading @Bklover so far I'm not thinking I'll have to bail, but we'll see. Just when I think it's getting better it literally spends several minutes listing all the specific pop culture items the main character has read/watched/listened to. 6y

Pickpick

I finished this book on my walk today. It was much stronger than the first in the series! Part of that may be the audio, I didn't do that format with the first one. Some of the very casual language and often clunky dialogue came off a lot better with someone speaking it. Also the first book was bogged down with a bunch of exposition - although I enjoyed the world-building, it was better when the plot could just sail along without explanation.
