This takes place in the spring but I still enjoyed it as a fall cozy mystery. It's the first book in a series and I plan to read the next one for relaxation.

It took me months to read this, not out of disinterest but because it is a painful book to read. Through it's tragedy, there are moments of beauty. The author is so good at character development and making you care about each and every one of them. This book devastated me but it might be the best book I've ever read.

I was so looking forward to this book coming out but have been left with conflicted feelings. It starts off disjointed and not really making much sense. It seems kind of Frankensteined together. It also lacks the humor of Brosh's first book. I'm not even talking about in the serious parts, I'm talking about the parts that are supposed to be funny. The parts that shine ARE the serious parts. It's where she's the most honest in the book. ⭐⭐⭐1/2

This was a very different book than I anticipated it to be. It was slow-paced and not scary at all. Gothic? Yes. The audiobook narrator was terrible: her English accent was ridiculously bad and she had an odd cadence. The plot was just too subtle for my liking and it was due back to the library, I DNF at 66%. ⭐⭐

This just felt too icky to read. The writing is really good but I just couldn't hang in there. I made it 30% through before I had to bail. Trigger warning for abuse, incest and, from what I hear, violence.

Here are the books I got through in August. It's not as impressive as some people in this app but it's good for me. 😁 My favorite book was the Alice Hoffman book, The Rules of Magic. I really liked the characters, they were very likable. 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was really good, too.

I was really not interested in this book for a long time because it sounded too fantastical even for my bizarre imagination. I had a few days before my next audiobook hold became available and this one was available and a short listen (I think it's 5 1/2 hrs) so I thought, "Why not?" I could always start it and return it early if I hated it. I'm glad I gave it a shot. It was heartwarming and funny and sweet. Well worth the read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I listened to the audiobook and found the jumping back and forth between the past and present confusing, especially because the narrator was the same. My other complaint is that there are a lot of characters to keep track of and I got confused between them in the end. One last complaint: the pace... slow pace throughout. Not terrible writing, but not my favorite book either. I'd give this ⭐⭐⭐1/2

Ugh. I want the hours it took to read this book back! I don't see what the hype about it is all about. It's gimmicky and I didn't give a hoot about any of the characters. I'm so mad I read this whole book instead of putting it down halfway through.

LoveToReadLiveToRead Yeah, I‘m with you. I‘d been recommended by someone who had said it was one of the beat books they‘d read but it just didn‘t do it for me at all. 🤷‍♀️ 4y

I joined a book club and am insecure about my ability to analyze fiction, so before I try to do it on the book club pick, I'm practicing on my current read, The Passengers. My method is to summarize each chapter as I go along on my tablet. I'll also make any additional notes. It takes a lot of time to do this, but I think I'll retain much more of the text this way. By the way, I'm enjoying this book. It's an easy read, just what I need now!

I don't know what my problem is, I must be going through an audiobook slump: I've borrowed and returned (unfinished) 4 audiobooks yesterday alone! I'm able to sit down and read actual books, but for some reason my usual go-to format is not holding my attention right now. Oh, and here's a cute picture of my pug. That is all!

Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve been in the same boat lately. I thought maybe I just needed a break from some of the heavy topics I‘d been listening to so I listened to a middle grade novel and I really wasn‘t impressed by that. I‘m just listening to podcasts until I find something that grabs me. 5y

A moving story of a family's immigration to America from Vietnam during the Vietnam war era. I heard the author speak about this graphic novel several years ago at Comic-Con International and have been wanting to read it ever since. This was a library read.

This is a sci-fi book for those readers that may have never read a sci-fi novel. It's as accessible as a sci-fi theme gets, peppered with elements of mystery thrown in.

I was into this audiobook from the first chapter. It got my pulse raising and kept my interest throughout. The narrator does an excellent job with all types of voices and has appropriate pace for the story.

I give this audiobook ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Girl, let's be honest. This book was terrible. I don't know how it got such good reviews on Amazon, I found it to be lacking in substance and preachy. The author has to constantly remind you that she is a good Christian girl and it gets old real quick. I couldn't get past the sixth chapter and frankly, I'm surprised I made it that far. I'm glad I borrowed this from the library instead of wasted my money on it. I learned nothing.

I listened to the audiobook version of this. It's worth listening to/reading but the author goes off on unrelated tangents that might be helpful to some people but I found it annoying. The advice on motivation was solid and can be applied in many situations.
