Lock Every Door
Lock Every Door: A Novel | Riley Sager
The next heart-pounding thriller from New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager follows a young woman whose new job apartment sitting in one of New York’s oldest and most glamorous buildings may cost more than it pays. No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly, disturbingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story . . . until the next day, when Ingrid disappears. Searching for the truth about Ingrid’s disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew's dark past and into the secrets kept within its walls. Her discovery that Ingrid is not the first apartment sitter to go missing at the Bartholomew pits Jules against the clock as she races to unmask a killer, expose the building’s hidden past, and escape the Bartholomew before her temporary status becomes permanent.

Finished my next book club pick a little earlier than I normally do because I couldn‘t resist reading another Riley Sager book. This was wild! Started at a nice slow pace and the suspense increased pretty deliciously over the course of the story. I did not see that ending! I had no idea the mystery surrounding the Bartholemew would be THAT!! So creepy! A lot of fun to read and I didn‘t figure it out. I suspect my book club will love this one.

I give this book 4/5 stars. It starts out slow, but give it a chance. For those that grew up on Goosebumps stories, R L Stine endorsed this book :). It‘s the equivalent to a horror motive where you keep yelling at the main character to STOP! The ending will keep you in your toes.

I really enjoyed this one and it's the first book I've read straight through in 2 weeks at least, so it kept my interest for sure! Jules gets a lucky break with the apartment sitter position she landed in NYC's highly esteemed Bartholomew building. She gets to touch elbows with the rich and famous and get posts for living in luxury... but as other apartment sitters disappear Jules begins to wonder if there are sinister forces at work.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟

Just picked this one up because I saw it on an 'all-time best thriller' list and I've been really bored lately by every book I pick up. I just haven't been able to get invested. So, I was looking for an easy read that will keep me interested and in my toes. I feel like there's been a lull in good thriller releases since the end of the year and nothing (*except The Shards) has kept me engaged. I do go thru these moods from time to time.

5feet.of.fury I really liked this one! I hope it comes through as your slump breaker 🀞 4w

Jules is hired to live at the Bartholomew - seems too good to be true - it is - twists and turns - a good thriller - the ending a bit β€œscooby -dooβ€œ - it didn't fit with the rest of the story (which was a solid thriller IMO). #BookSpinBingo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Apartment sitting for $4000 a month, a few strange rules. It seems to good to be true…and it definitely is. The ending is where this book shines, it stills makes me shiver to think how cold and creepy this book descends. 1st Riley Sager book will defo pick up another.

Well, this book is most definitely a thriller. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen. I make it sound like a movie. So a young woman answers an ad for an apartment sitter in a very fancy building in Manhattan. But there might be a reason this is too good to be true.

β€œPain equals clarity. Clarity equals survival.”

A bit of predictability on seeing certain reoccurring themes but fantastic read nonetheless. May even go a step further in saying I enjoyed this more than Home Before Dark. Jules wasn‘t the most fascinating but her history definitely adds more unresolved mystery. Gave me Rosemary‘s Baby vibes.

The beginning of the book was frustrating. Non-linear hops seemed too obvious as a hook. The story is designed to be fanatical and the true crime lover within was not impressed with the supernatural leaps. By the last few chapters, as a more plausible ending came into view, was where it became truly frightening. Looking forward to reading more from Sager.

Ok, minority opinion apparently but
❎ Meh characters, most campy
❎ Last 10% contains the bulk of the action but it's not enthralling just faster paced
❎ Ridiculous plot - actually made me laugh
❎ Guessed the main "baddie" the second they appeared
❎ Imho poor writing
❎ Not creepy, scary, horrifying or anything of the sort
Author should have just written an essay on the class differences in the US and poverty.

Megabooks Same. I read ¼, skipped to the end and confirmed my suspicions, sent it back to the library. Definitely his worst. 2y

It was so long ago (or so it seems) that I TBRd this that I really didn't know what to expect. I was hoping for something really creepy (home invasions gives me the chills), something that'd make me question sounds in the house but tbh it ain't doin that, in fact, it just ain't all that good. But as you can see I'm sticking it out. I was hoping it would get better but at this point I'm just hoping for a speedy end.
