Yeah…that was great!

It‘s been a bit since I stayed up past midnight to finish a book but this was worth it. I only want to read about unlikeable characters from now on if it ends like this.

That the author thanks her “beloved sphynx cat, who sadly passed away as [she] was completing this novel”, stating “I would have started a death cult for you,” only makes it better. I know the feeling. R.I.P. Moxie Crimefighter. 🐰 Long live Samantha Allen!

This book was pretty good! Decidedly Not a romance which the description and title and reviews had led me to believe it was. More of a cozy(ish) horror. Horror with slightly less tension and all the gore contained to like, the last two/three chapters. A nice light (ish) read!

Well this was fabulous. I got this from a horror book store, Butcher Cabin Books, in Louisville. The person working there recommended it. The story is wild, and I was here for all of it. 100% recommend.

I need to talk to someone who has also read this and loved it, it‘s sooooo good and I love its commentary on being queer

A queer horror with a look at behind the scenes reality TV. I am not a watcher of "reality" dating shows, but this was interesting. The last 4 girls of a bachelor style show and their Catch head with the production team to a ran down island and then things go very wrong.
A bit gory, a bit weird, but easy to read and quick moving.
I enjoyed the ride.

"She had always had trouble even envisioning being alive past 30. All the possibilities she had seen in her own circles - getting married, getting divorced, raising kids, aspirational suburban grilling - each of them felt tragic in their own right, all equally dead ends. Something inside of her had always felt like it was decaying, doomed, not long for this world. But telling that to anyone would make her feel crazy."

The book is fun, mean, and beautifully executed. Allen maintains great balance between catty drama and slasher-movie gore. I can‘t wait to discuss at our book club next week! 💅🏻💋🤳🌲👣🌲

The blurb at the top says it best; I don‘t like horror and I‘ve never watched The Bachelor but I still really enjoyed it. It follows the final 4 girls on The Catch as they arrive on Otters Island, known for being LGBTQIA friendly, but is there something else there too?!

It‘s certainly not deep and meaningful and the horror isn‘t actually that horrid but it‘s fab as a weird and wacky palate-cleanser.

So weird and I loved it!

Not for me! I didn't realize this was satire.

This book quickly changed from being a fun story about a reality TV to a complete horror story!! Yikes. Not sure what to think.

Bizarre and entertaining horror set on location at a remote island during the filming of a dating reality show. I just wish we'd gotten more of the "meat" of the novel that really gets started only toward the very end. That was when I got into it, but it was over so quickly I was left wanting more. And I want more Patricia! Not nearly enough Patricia or about the group of queer woman protecting her.

So this is a lot of good things all mashed up together. There is this ripoff of the Bachelor called The Catch. They are down to the last 4 girls and the Catch himself. They head to a remote island location off the Pacific Northwest to shoot the finale. This book was so smart. It harpoons the “reality” show aspect in here so well. There‘s “reality” and real life drama, a lesbian romance, and some really scary moments that include a Bigfoot. Pick!

June reads!

The book is well written, but the storytelling lacked any real sense of direction. I think it could have been something great if either A) Patricia‘s presence in the story had been more prominent or B) Patricia had simply never been a plot device in the story at all. Plus, give me characters who aren‘t caricatures. Making me hate them still doesn‘t make me want to see them die. I simply wasn‘t a fan of how the author chose to execute her idea.

This book is ridiculously fun. A reality show heads to an island in Washington state. Think Bachelor, not Survivor. And things begin to go very wrong.
