This was a fun little mystery to zip through. Even now I recognized how much I would've enjoyed this book as a kid. As an adult, there were a bunch of things I appreciate more now than I would have then (though some parts haven't aged well). Also, this is exactly how I love mysteries: fast-paced, unreliable characters, & all the clues at my disposal. There were some parts I didn't guess, and others that I did, but the book played fair throughout.

This is easily one of my favorite mystery novels, and my only regret is that I didn't know about it when I was a kid. This is exactly the type of book I would have read over and over in junior high.

“The Westing Game” by Ellen Raskin is a perfect RF novel for older elementary students who enjoy a good murder mystery novel! This Newberry Award winning book tells the story of a group of apartment residents are challenged to solve the murder of Sam Westing. The pair who solves correctly is granted Westing‘s $200 million fortune! This makes for a great IR that will keep your readers on their toes! #UCFLAE3414F19

abbie-cadabbie This lesson plan is great to use with this book because it includes questions to have your students answer as they read! This keeps them informed and have a better understanding for the story. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/westing-game-d... 2mo
abbie-cadabbie The UDL strategy I would pair with this story would be to support planning and strategy development (6.2) This will keep my students following along with the story by planning and strategizing. The ESOL strategy I would use would be to promote cooperation (2) This will ensure that my students are getting help from their peers while working. 2mo

I finished a reread of this last night and am very glad I did! It‘s a book I remember reading in middle school and feeling like, how did I miss that?! at the ending! It took me about an hour to find it after searching obscure topics I could remember online. Fortunately my local library had a copy as well. 💚

What a fun book! I can‘t believe I‘d never heard of it till now, though I was in my twenties when it was published. 16 people are summoned to the house of millionaire Samuel Westing for the reading of his will. Instead, they‘re divided into teams, given clues & told to find the answer to who killed him, the winner being named sole heir. Loved every minute of it! #SummersEndReadathon #HSreadathon #Pop19 #RevolvingAroundAPuzzleOrGame

#BookMail Pt12 My final book from last fortnights haul is this beautiful hardcover edition of The Westing Game. I‘d never heard of this before @Liberty raved about how much she loved it. Contemporary realistic fiction. This story is one I definitely want to keep reading. I‘m intrigued by the mystery and thrill of the tale so far and I think anyone would appreciate this book. It may be considered a children‘s book but I think anyone can enjoy the mystery of this novel and the language it uses. It doesn‘t try to be dumbed down for children, like the intro said, it‘s very much written for the adult in children.

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, 1978. This classic mystery intrigued the reader from the very beginning. Without getting too much into the plot, the story is fun and thrilling and full of mystery. It‘s no wonder this book is considered such a beloved classic.

Reading this book for the first time as an adult, I find myself thoroughly enjoying it. The detailed constructed mystery is clever and I really like the playful narrative tone. Very funny in parts, I tittered so often. Great cast of characters that make the story so interesting, especially the female characters, which Raskin has powerfully created. Turtle Wexler is such a fun child protagonist-smart, plucky, kicks shins, plays the stock market! 👍

After listening to The Westing Game episode on The SSR Podcast by @ahoffkosik, I decided I needed to read the book again. I remember loving it when I read it in school but not much else. What a wild ride! So many twists & turns, & it's amazing that it's a kids' book because it reads like an adult mystery. There are a ton of details to keep track of, which was hard with the audio, but the voices helped! As did relistening to SSR after!
