The illustrations in this book are unbelievable! This book inspires me to think of activities I can use with students to teach on the day of the dead.
pickFunny Bones by Duncan Tonatiuh, 2015. In this book posada ‘s calaveras or artworks of skeletons are displayed especiallg on the day of the dead! The illustrations throughout the book are very detailed and colorful as well. This book is a great way to discuss traditions in cultures. I really like the fact that the author uses English but also incorporates Spanish as well!

So we don‘t celebrated Dia de Los Muertos but my grandma had a little alter and celebrated. I remember having so many questions about it and practicing the celebration with her.
While browsing Libby, this one jumped out at me. The pictures are super cute!!!

pickFunny bones was a overall pretty good book! It is very informational about how calaveras came to be. Also talks about how day of the day came to be. This is a great book for your classroom because it is a very teachable reading.

The pictures in this book are beautiful and fun.

His drawing became famous because of his skeletons doing multiple everyday activities. The poses soon had then became identified with the day of the dead which is what is pictured in this book.

The drawings are very different but beautiful.
so-soFunny Bones is a nonfiction book written by Duncan Tonatiuh. This book tells the story of calaveras. It is very informational especially to someone who is not of that culture. This story is important but long, I would not read it to very young children because they would not catch on. In the back of the book a lot of resources to learn more.
Nonfiction. This is a wonderful story for a classroom, especially if you plan on observing or learning about Dia fe Muertos. It‘s informational but feels like a story and looks like a picture book, making it a great read aloud story or a story for individual reading.

This is a wonderful nonfiction story because it feels like a story but it‘s also telling the history of the Calaveras and Dia de Muertos. The fun illustrations alongside Posadas original works make the story engaging and the story itself is very interesting and informative.
I love this quote!! It‘s a beautiful way to memorialize our loved ones and reflect that even other groups feel the same way as this particular culture.

I love this illustration!! Such a famous drawing! I have seen this many times in movies, spanish class, and more! Each time I see it I fall in love with it more!

Can‘t vouch for these books, but they seem quite interesting. I think I‘m going to look for these so I can share them with my stepson. I figure I should try to teach him a bit about my culture and what better way than with books. For those of you trying to introduce kids to a bit of Mexican culture these books may be a good start. #diversebooks
