Meet Captain Underpants, a superhero with a true identity that is SO secret, even HE doesn't know who he is! Now with a full-color bonus chapter! George and Harold have created the greatest superhero in the history of their elementary school -- and now they've accidentally brought him to life! Read the first book in this bestselling series about two creative kids and the zany misadventures that follow when Captain Underpants leaps off the page to save the day! Acclaimed author and Caldecott Honor artist Dav Pilkey takes readers on a wild ride in this outrageously funny, action-packed, easy-to-read chapter book. With illustrations on every page, it's great for both beginning and chapter-book readers, and sure to turn even the most reluctant of readers into lifelong fans. Our B turns 5 (you read that right) this week. Our family spends Saturdays visiting the bookstore and grabbing lunch together. We still do the library, and our library is AWESOME, but there is something so exciting about visiting the bookstore and hanging out together. And of course we see the changes at home too. It‘s such a fun thing to watch a book nerd grow up. ❤️

Soubhiville This photo makes me so happy! I love seeing kids enjoying a book. 📖🖤 10mo
kspenmoll How wonderful! My son loved the Captain Underpants series. 10mo
HotMessJess @kspenmoll it‘s been an absolutely awesome book for us. He loves the comic aspect and George and Harold! They are super delightful books!! I‘m glad they exist 10mo
HotMessJess @Soubhiville me too!! We‘ve been very cognizant of letting him choose. Last thing I want to do is force him to read and make him hate it. This was a “caught in the wild moment too”. He picked it up on his own! I was thrilled. 10mo
AmyG I love when kids enjoy reading. That was me! Always a nose in a book. 10mo

I‘ve said it since he was born: Raise Readers. #raisereaders

Jjaxn95 I used to love these when I was a kid! 1y
HotMessJess @Jjaxn95 it‘s B‘s new favorite and he‘s in love! We really battled with getting him to sit and read with us for a few months. We stumbled on Dog Man (followed by Captain Underpants) and it‘s now him BEGGING us to read more. My heart exploded! They‘re GREAT books. 1y
Jjaxn95 @HotMessJess that‘s so awesome!! My nephews 6yrs and 5yrs are super into Dog Man. They‘re a great gateway into developing a love for reading. 1y
HotMessJess @Jjaxn95 I agree!! Dav Pilkey is definitely B‘s “gateway” author LOL 1y

I‘ve spent LOADS of time this week being told how funny Captain Underpants is, by enthusiastic young readers. Or ordering in different titles for children who have read everything Underpants we have. Or just hunting for Dav Pilkey books, cos they refuse to stay on the shelf.

So this evening I decided to actually read one… Turns out they are quite fun. And I did like the Flip-E-Rama section. I might even be up for reading more.

Tra-La-Laaa!

BookishMadHatter I've read all of these with my daughters as well as the Dog Man and Cat Kid Comic Club books ... several times each actually lol. We have loads of fun with them 2y
TEArificbooks The Investigators and Agent Moose are similar book series for those kids that have read all Dog Man/Dav Pilkey books 2y
Aimeesue I will confess to loving the lo-tech Flip-E-Ramas in Pilkey's books. I'm easily amused. 😂 2y

rockpools @BookishMadHatter Dog Man is on the TBR. I didn‘t know Cat Kid was a thing, but will see what we have. They‘re a lot more fun than I expected! 2y
rockpools @TEArificbooks THANK YOU! As a recovering business librarian, I‘ve a lot of catching up to do with the children‘s literature- this is VALUABLE INFORMATION. I‘ll check them out 😊 2y
rockpools @Aimeesue Same. 😂😂. I was reading on Kobo, and read the instructions SO carefully! 2y

I love this book. I think it is great for getting children into reading and having a fun time doing it. It is silly and uplifting

Overall, a fun series. The series relies on potty humor and I think that really speaks to what the kids can find funny at the intended age rage. Also is perfect for reader withADHD.

Graphica. Captain Underpants is a series series a graphic novels. This book is the first book in the series. The books have energetic, fun filled illustrations that enrich the text and really give it that comic book feel. Some may say this series is filled with too much disrespect and potty humor to be appreciate for kids. But I think it really can speak their language and help older kids enjoy reading.

I love when George and Harold first hypnotize their principle and when he first transforms into the famous hero!

Another one of my favorites! Captain Underpants is a funny adventure as two mischievous fourth graders hypnotize their mean principle into thinking he is a superhero. The superhero of course is Captain Underpants who fashions a pair of whitey tighties and a red cape.

The Adventures of Captain Underpants series was written by Dav Pilkey. I never really read these books as a kid. I really liked the illustrations in the book. In addition, I really like the pages that have the comic book look to them.

tra la la la laaaaaa. sorry i love that when he dose that lol. i love captain underpants captain under pants series revolves around two fourth-graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, living in Piqua, Ohio, and Captain Underpants, an aptly named superhero from one of the boys' homemade comic books, who accidentally (“kinda on purpose“) becomes real when George and Harold hypnotize their cruel, bossy, and ill-tempered

So far the book Captain underpants is good. It's very humorous and entertaining. For example, they create a superhero that acts pretty foolish but hilarious. Overall it's a good book so far. I do recommend this book for people who love to laugh and like pictures/ illustrations in the book, it's funny but maybe it wouldn't appeal to people who don't appreciate childish humor.

(Day 30 - #WhiteFlag)

*I‘m such a kid. When I see a white flag, it makes me think of “running underwear up the flagpole,” which used to be a joke back when my dad was in school (the year would be 1950—I don‘t know if anybody knows the joke nowadays). Then that reminded me of the Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey, which are set in Piqua, Ohio. I probably don‘t need to say anymore—I‘m pretty sure you guys think I‘m nuts by now.

cobwebmoth I used to work in Piqua, OH.😊 5y

Captain Underpants, written and illustrated by Dav Pilkey, is a (F) banned graphic novel for kids in grades 3-6. There is a whole series and other series by the same author about this character, Captain Underpants. It is comedic, dramatic, and filled with toilet humor.

WoodsKatie It would be best in a LC or IR setting so you can see the story and the pictures.3 The book satisfies UDL guidelines 2.5 and 5.2 as well as ESOL strategies 12 and 30. I surprisingly found a class lesson plan for the book. It looks inclusive and fun! https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/adventures-cap... #LAE3414sp19 6y
DrSpalding Children absolutely love captain underpants. Independent reading would be best! 6y

This series was my favorite when I was a little kid. Every book has a new adventure that you get to follow along with. I could never put the books down. This would be a great series to have in your elementary classroom so your students can also follow along the adventures of Captain Underpants.

My 6 year old gives this book two thumbs up. We have almost finished all the dog man books so decided to try another Pilkey book. The humour was right up my son‘s alley and we both liked learning that Pilkey orginally creates captain underpants when he was in grade 2.

LibrarianJen Someone gave my son a box set of the 1st 8 Captain Underpants books for Christmas. He loves them so much and we are already on the third book. 6y

My youngest has his TBR ready for the #readathon this weekend. He was worried that 11 Pokemon volumes and two Dog Man books wouldn‘t be enough, so I got him a ten book set of Captain Underpants (at a ridiculous outlet offer, they were practically the price of one book). He has read three of them before, but still figures maybe he has enough books that he can read one Dog Man book before the readathon. 😂
