This was beautiful and sad and lyrical. I really enjoyed this read for #lmpbc #groupp . I hadn‘t really read much Hughes before and there is such a range here. There were even a few short stories at the end. I marked this one up a lot. Thanks for picking @SamAnne
5 stars. I‘ve read his poems in anthologies but have never dived into Langston Hughes. His poems capture the times he lived in while also so ahead of his time. Will be reading more of his work. Poems & shortstories included in the collection. His poems read like blues and jazz, some like hip hop. Powerful emotion and commentary on the violence and racism in America. @rachelm @wanderingbookniffler @TheBookKeepers #LMPBC Group P for poetry!
Ancient dusky rivers. My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I know embarrassingly little about the Harlem Renaissance and the authors of that time, but Hughes poetry was a great introduction. Delving into race, discrimination, segregation, love, and life, his poetry moved me many times.
