Freya is the myth. Freya is the legend. And shes about to make one hell of a comeback. There's far more to Sara Vanadi than meets the eye. In her prime, she was Freya, the Norse goddess of love, beauty, war, and death - though that past hardly seems to matter now. For an ancient goddess in the 21st century, true believers - and the strength they bring - are painfully hard to find. But when a new, rising power threatens to remake the world by bending the divine to its will, Sara realizes her days of hiding have ended, and a chance to claw her way out of the history books has arrived. She'll just need new clothes and a manicure before she gets started. Blending elements of fantasy and scifi in a modern-world setting, the first novel in this new young adult series by Matthew Laurence is perfect for fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. An Imprint Book

I randomly found this while I was shelving some other YA books, and figured what the heck, it looks like everything I love about a good frivolous read. It hasn‘t disappointed so far! (It‘s a LITTLE silly, but it‘s fun!) #freya #matthewlaurence #norsemythology #reimaginedmythology #norse #vanir #goddess #norsegoddess

This was pretty good. I found it to be a quick read that stayed interesting through out. There were a couple of inconsistencies that annoyed me. They are pretty minor on the spoilers but I will post them in the comment under a spoiler tag anyway. Overall a good light read about deities dealing with the modern world.

Maewyn There was reference to Freya's fondness for pigs and cats and how eating pork would be taboo. Then pork is mentioned on the menu several times later, including one where Freya herself is eating it. The other is that several times there are body positive comments about women and weight but later a comment is mentioned that implies fat people are lazy just to make a quick joke.😡 5y

Mehso-so

It started out good...had a fairly decent ending...but for me fell flat through the middle. I think a lot of pages were used to say very little and then a lot was revealed at the end. Maybe it‘s like a long prologue to the next book? Not sure but something was lacking for me with this one.

Gods run on belief. No belief = weak gods. So when mankind's "Evil Incorporated" offers you a deal to bring belief in you back to it's full strength, with the only caveat being you have to work for them, do you take it? Or do you take them down? Interesting concept. Took a little while for it all to coalesce, and I'm still not quite sure if this is YA or Adult (maybe that New Adult category that didn't necessarily take off?).

QuoteQueen Sounds interesting! If you like ancient gods in modern times might I suggest 6y
ralexist @QuoteQueen - I loved The Immortals! It's so good :) The third installment of the series actually comes out today though I'll have to wait to get it through my library. 6y

I'll be finishing this soon and for some reason thought to check out the CIP page and discovered this little gem at the bottom. I love it when authors include tiny things like this that almost go unnoticed 😃

Considering this was a Cover Buy, I was a bit concerned going in. I really wasn't disappointed, though. Some of the writing and descriptions were more vague than I would have liked, and sometimes the modern world and ancient gods came together in weird ways. I loved the story and characters, though, and enjoyed the range of gods and goddesses that were featured in the book. And I LOVED Freya herself. Definitely picking up the next book.

I love worlds where all the gods exist and they all know each other and they'll interact.

And call each other oversexed tarts.

I literally JUST learned that this is the correct version of this saying, and I'm sort of shocked (and impressed) to see it somewhere. Literally the first time I've seen it used.

Now let's see if I can get this read between work and bed. Maybe stay up a little late? Maybe start it tomorrow? I don't know.

The goddess is alive and working at a theme park and plotting how to take down an evil corporation whose mission is to subjugate gods or destroy them.

Super fun. I loved the world building. I want book 2!!!

This book was a pretty quick read, and I loved it. Considering it has to do with Norse gods, and I love Norse mythology so... A+ on my behalf. Did I mention... that it has plenty of other badass gods in it too? But... Freya.....though. 😍 #freya #yalit #books #gods #norse #fantasy

Reading this after catching up on American Gods tv series. Lots of forgotten gods/goddesses out there. Fun, light book so far.

I LOVE stories about gods and goddesses but there was something about the different pantheons interacting with one another that confused me. I stopped every time a new deity was introduced to look them up which was very frustrating. Loved the concept. #litsyAtoZ #freya #matthewlaurence #gods #goddesses #bailed #yafiction #teenreads #teenfiction #letterF
