pickI greatly enjoyed this book! It was extremely well-written. Jill Filipovic makes many points related to the reality of being a woman in the US that I did not previously consider. I also like her consistent mentions of different communities. She realized and worked to learn more about her biases. The research was well-done and very suitable for the book. I would certainly love to read other works by her and delve into more feminist nonfiction.
Finally got organized! This just my nonfiction #bookhaul from Brooklyn Book Festival yesterday. 2 were FREE, 1 is an ARC, and 1 was in a “blind date” package & pushed me over the edge to receive (another) free tote.
You may notice that these are all small presses! I really loved supporting these publishers (and the topics the authors have focused on). 💕📚📚📚👏🏻
pickOverall, this is a good look at how feminist ideas and policies improve happiness and make life better for everyone, female and male, gay and straight, white and non-white. It also looks at more ways we need to change. If you‘re well-versed in women‘s studies, there won‘t be much new here for you, but otherwise I think it‘s a worthwhile read.
She has a point. This is part of a larger discussion of women being judged differently than men.

pickA book exploring feminist theory and personal experience in an effort to call out a rigged system in which women's happiness is derailed. How can we make women happy? With focus on things like acknowledging nontraditional relationships, improving sexual pleasure, allotting more time for play and parenting, etc. A bit academic (needed some breathers) but overall a call to action supported by statistics, personal experience and history. #ARC
Can't tell you how much I'm enjoying reading this ARC right now...especially considering it's relevance to current issues. I'm only about twenty percent into it, but I can't see myself losing interest yet.

This non-fiction survey about happiness as it relates specifically to women. Topics include friends, sex and power over our bodies, motherhood, marriage, work, food and body image, and identity. Through treatment, but the organization seemed a little off to me (seemed like a strange order) and much of the info is in other happiness books. Good first volume, but if you follow the topic, likely to be repetitive.
