Mum's the Word
Mum's the Word: A Flower Shop Mystery | Kate Collins
6 posts | 4 read | 11 to read
Abby Knight is the proud owner of her hometown flower shop, but a new low-cost competitor is killing her profits-and a black SUV just rammed her vintage Corvette in a hit-and-run. She's determined to track down the driver, but when the trail turns deadly, the next flower arrangement might be for her own funeral.

This is a solid cozy. The author didn‘t depend on dialogue like many cozy authors do or make other mistakes that debut cozy mystery do. The main character was the typical dense character though. I would read the next in the series though and want to watch the movie.

Mehso-so

First in the flower shop cozy mystery series…I ended up feeling just meh by the end of this. While the whole idea of a cozy is an amateur sleuth the meddles, Abby takes meddling to a whole new level, and her constant nosing around “in the name of justice” got a little old. There are some humorous bits in this, and I would be willing to continue the series to see how Collins develops the characters. The series is still going strong, so it has fans!

Cinfhen I LOVE the premise…..flower shop mysteries and the title 😂😂😂😂but an annoying main character is TOTALLY unacceptable 🙃 1y

squirrelbrain Hmmm, sounds a bit annoying! 1y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen @squirrelbrain The book got mixed reviews at book club last night, with everyone agreeing that Brooke Shields was not the right choice, descriptively, to play the role…she‘s the lead in the Hallmark movies based on the book series. 1y
Cinfhen Oh wow😲 Brooke Shields…haven‘t thought about her in decades 1y
LaraReads Ugh. Sounds tiresome to have a fun premise but not to enjoy the characters is a pain! (edited) 1y

I'd planned to open this last night, but I didn't make it to midnight.
Love the mug (the colour is gorgeous) and teas!!!

I'd been fretting that I'd end up with whatever book would be in the gift because I buy so many cozies, but I'd never heard of this one. Great selection @Erika13137 ! I've always wanted to try a gardening cozy, this is perfect. Will cuddle up with it this weekend.

Erika13137 Yay! I went through all your good reads lists and was happy to find this wasn't on it. I hope you enjoy the book and if so, the rest of the series. I think she's up to 19 books now. Sorry for all the tape 😉 7y
drokka No worries about the tape, I'm used to it. My father is also a Super Security taper. His thinking is that while it's a gift, you should still have to work for it lol (he's a goofy/funny guy). It made me laugh. 19?! I like long series, says something about the writing. 😍 7y
Mdargusch Great cozy box! 7y
Avanders I love it when I think I know the four corners of a genre, only to be surprised by a thoughtful gift giver! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 7y
mabell A gardening cozy sounds fun! And mums are perfect for fall. 😉 7y

This one started off pretty rocky. There was no reason for the MC to begin investigating the murder, and it was mind-boggling that she linked it with her hit and run. A little further in, it sorted itself out, though, and became the kind of entertaining that Cozies promise. Will continue the series.

Starting this bright little piece of pastel overload now! Cap and Bucky don't know how it's going to go, either.
