“Of course, being from Detroit I‘ve never quite trusted happiness.”
@Wife I cannot thank you enough! What a thoughtful, exciting #hometownswap package! This is truly wonderful! Everything is so great! This picture doesn‘t do it justice, there will be more to come! Thank you 🙏🏻!!!
Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed the heck out of this book. It‘s a crime/thriller and I was able to figure it out before the end. However, it is set in Detroit and Detroit suburbs, and I didn‘t have to imagine the scenery because I knew exactly where each one was. That‘s the first time for this experience. I‘ve read mentions of Detroit locations in other books, but they weren‘t as vivid or interesting to me. I‘m giving this one a solid 3/5⭐️.
My favorite color is purple. It doesn't seem to be a popular book color. #anditsAugust
The thriller portion of this book is average, standard, and mostly predictable. What makes the book above average is the writing. It's gorgeous and poetic and his descriptions of setting make you feel like you're there. Like, I legit have smelled Mexican food all day. I loved how he made Detroit a character as much as the people (like The Wire did with Baltimore) and he addresses class and racism in a way that makes a point without being preachy.
BOOK MAIL! What should I read first?
I'm a sucker for any book set in Detroit, and love the description of this one! Have you read it or heard of it? #tbr #TBRornotTBR
"From the wealthy suburbs to the remains of Detroit‘s bankrupt factory districts, August Snow is a fast-paced tale of murder, greed, sex, economic cyber-terrorism, race and urban decay. "
I see you're reading again. I'll just sit this close and stare until you put that book down and pick up my pull toy. Mkay.
