Stephen Mack Jones has a new August Snow, Detroit Mexicantown book out!!!! I am so excited as this series is so freaking good I am jumping around with glee. If you have not yet discovered this series well get on the ball as it is highly recommended. August Snow is my hero!!
pickI hate tech mysteries- they make my brain hurt. But I loved this one. So funny and suspenseful. It definitely reminded me of those great old noir movies.

pickNot my usual genre, but I enjoyed the heck out of this book. It‘s a crime/thriller and I was able to figure it out before the end. However, it is set in Detroit and Detroit suburbs, and I didn‘t have to imagine the scenery because I knew exactly where each one was. That‘s the first time for this experience. I‘ve read mentions of Detroit locations in other books, but they weren‘t as vivid or interesting to me. I‘m giving this one a solid 3/5⭐️.

pickThe thriller portion of this book is average, standard, and mostly predictable. What makes the book above average is the writing. It's gorgeous and poetic and his descriptions of setting make you feel like you're there. Like, I legit have smelled Mexican food all day. I loved how he made Detroit a character as much as the people (like The Wire did with Baltimore) and he addresses class and racism in a way that makes a point without being preachy.
