WHY did we time jump again? Events in the last book which came out 1 year apart are several years ago.. with nothing in between it takes away from Kay‘s mentality, Lucy‘s “issues” & the return of an arch-nemesis. Botched a perfect hurt/comfort scene. trying to paint Lucy as a drunk when everyone else travels with a bottle of Dewars: pot/kettle. All the character development with Marino 🚮

Pacing & twists saved the story. ⬇️

5feet.of.fury I know Cornwell is an icon in the genre and there‘s no way anyone could have predicted the series would go on for another 25 years 😂 and the characters have to get where they are going but if anything other series authors SLOW the time to accommodate (k Slaughter having to adjust the timelines for Grant County/Will Trent for instance) and I just don‘t know why we would have did this… & it does make it somewhat off balance. 2y

I amended my rating for this one down to 4 stars, as it's not as fast-paced as the previous books, & I didn't enjoy re-reading as much. The title is odd too, as the Body Farm actually plays only a small role in the entire book, with the majority of the action taking place elsewhere. It was still an engrossing read. 4🌟

TW: death of a child, death of an animal.

Probably not what everyone would have picked for a beach read but is an excellent book and I couldn't put it down. Patricia Cornwell's writing style is intelligent yet approachable and has a propensity for leaving you hooked to every sentence/paragraph/chapter. Highly recommend

#BackwoodsBodyCount

This was the first novel that introduced me to the Body Farm, back when I was still in school and it fascinated me. I can imagine the people working there have to do regular literal body counts in their woods. Since I have a strong stomach, but sensitive nose I'd volunteer to help count in Winter only. 😁

Thought I would read a true crime since @Kaye got me to thinking about them. What better than one that features my state Tennessee. I have always been amazed that the body farm is at our beloved Vols stomping ground. Good Ole Rocky Top Home Sweet Home

Kaye @glp4766 Great to see someone else reading a true crime. That's one I haven't gotten to yet. Hope you like it. Thanks for the note. 7y

For #changedyourmindabout I have to pick Kay Scarpetta. When I attended UTK I heard about the real body farm and had to read the novel inspired by it. Loved KS and her stories for years. #12 starts the decline. In #15 PC shifts from 1st person to 3rd. (!!???!!) By #18 PC returns to 1st person narration, but every killer has a personal link to KS. Really? One more try with #19. Another convoluted personal connection. Bailed on series! #FeistyFeb

Librarylady3 Agreed! I feel after a certain point she just ran out of good stories but kept writing anyway. 8y
Dragon I feel the same. The series started so strong and now it's limping 😔 8y
Liatrek Some one suggested I read this series. I bought book one and it's on my TBR pile but this sounds like the series takes a James Patterson Women's murder club / Alex Cross trend of being good the first few books then drastically declining 😔 8y

Theresa Agreed! I used to love her book but then there was one where she just jumped the shark & I was so annoyed I've never picked up another one. I can't even remember which one it was that turned me off. I blocked it from my memory because I disliked it so much. 8y
Beckys_Books I gave up on this series long ago. Disappointing because I really enjoyed the first few books. 8y
DogMomIrene @Liatrek I started at #4 and kept going. I really enjoyed the series until #12. If you just read those first books, you may love them. I've actually thought about reading 1-3...someday... 8y
DogMomIrene @Theresa She jumped a shark? Whoa...Either I didn't make it that far in the series, or that event occurred when I was reading late at night. I'd have a similar reaction. 8y

My girl crush is Kay Scarpetta. I absolutely loved the early books. Dr. Scarpetta is an intelligent, strong, and beautiful medical examiner. She is flawed but aren't we all? I haven't been able to get into the recent novels. I feel like something was lost when she switched from first person perspective. Still love her! #octphotochallenge #girlcrush

RanaElizabeth I keep reading these out of nostalgia's sake but man, the recent ones are terrible. 8y
DeeLew @RanaElizabeth I totally agree. I bailed on the last two. Just couldn't do it. 8y
TrishB Agreed, I keep reading in the hope the magic returns, but they have become very bland and boring. 8y
Bookzombie I love this series. I have been rereading the early ones because I can't remember where I left off so I haven't got to the ones that ya'll say are disappointing. 8y
Dragon I have to agree with you on the switch. I'm not enjoying the series as much and the last book I read was just soso. 8y
