Happy ol' birthday to me!
My 4 fave things tonight, knitting, a great big glass of sweet Moscato, my kitty and a good book, audio tonight whilst my little one watches her 3rd kids movie in my bed with me. Luckily for headphones!
Loving this book read by Alec Baldwin. His voice is so cool and soothing to listen to and I really like hearing about his childhood, so many stories, so many siblings, so many situations to shape a boy. A really enjoyable read (listen).
“A thorough and sophisticated effort to answer an interesting question: How did an indifferently raised, self-flagellating kid from a just-making-ends-meet, desultorily functioning Long Island family, in Massapequa, turn into Alec Baldwin, gifted actor, familiar public figure, impressively thoughtful person, notorious pugilist?...This memoir is beautifully written and unexpectedly moving.” #TBR | #ReadingResolutions - #Memoir
There is more unsaid than said. Not even half a chapter on 30 Rock? Next to nothing about SNL. Or most of the movies, actors, actresses he's worked with? No mention of his 3 actor brothers except to acknowledge he has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. I don't get it. Why did he even write this if he wasn't going to do much more than list his catalog of work? He's worked with nearly everyone in show business but he has very little to say.
I heard Alec Baldwin speak several months ago while on his book tour. Not expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised by his warmth, intelligence and humor. Sadly, not much of that comes through in the first 2/3 of the book. I've heard enough to move on to something else.
Great audiobook, I‘d never tire of listening to his voice. Definitely an easy, quick and fun read.
I am not sure what I was expecting, but this book was just a ton of name dropping. He said some pretty outright mean things about other people in the entertainment business. He also spends a lot of time defending himself for some of the pr snafus he has had. I guess that all makes sense? What else would he write about? But it was not a great read.
Alec Baldwin‘s autobiography, Nevertheless, was wonderful. I listened to the audiobook and his reading is perfect with the right amounts of inflection and enthusiasm. The writing quality was excellent. I would recommend this to individuals who enjoyed Gaiman‘s The View from the Cheap Seats and Atwood‘s In Other Worlds despite their many surface differences. On a deeper level, these books discuss an enjoyment and appreciation for the arts.
Up until this book I'd never taken Alec Baldwin seriously. I haven't seen many of his films; he always seemed a bit seedy to me. Listening to this, I realised he is a refreshingly honest man who is passionate about his work and I'd love to see him on stage! I'm so glad I listened to the audiobook because he has a great voice for it! Anyway, here's a pic of my #audiodottodot of which I am very proud 😁😂
The monstrosity you have to use when you want to listen to an audiobook on some external speakers while charging your iPhone 7. #audiobookproblems. That said, Nevertheless by Alec Baldwin is amazing. Just finished his high school years and he has some interesting insights about growing up that I feel could apply to my own past, but I never considered them before!
I'm a celeb memoir junky! Can't get enough of them, but for whatever reason, I'm not getting into this one. I can't figure out why. I hope it picks up.
Today's book haul. I love a good genealogical story combined with a bit of true crime, and celebrity autobiographies, especially well written ones, are my biggest book weakness. So I'm a happy girl on this cold, snowy day. We're finally home after music and then dance class, and Little Llama just crashed for her nap. How are the rest of you Littens today?
