Thank goodness for my audible credit coming in today... overdrive is acting wonky for me, and I need to audioclean!
In past years I have fallen short by 5 or 6 hours, this year I was determined to due all 24 hours, goal completed 🙆♀️🙆♀️✊✊#readathon #deweys24hourreadathon @DeweysReadathon
Weird! This is similar to Mean Girls plus American Beauty rewound 10 years and written down.
What a cast of strange, distinctive characters. The 1st person narration has a distant quality which seems trendy (think Marlena) which I enjoy; I think it better aids both shock value and allows the reader to view a more "objective" version of the story.
I enjoyed the multi-faceted story and delving into different characters in different parts.
My chest ached. It felt as if a wrinkled hand were keeping the surface of my heart taut, stretching the flesh out so I would know how much more painful things could get. I tried to unclench the grasp, but the hand stayed there, forcing me to feel what I did not want to feel.
Clearing out my ARC list ... or trying to anyway.
Listening to this currently. It's amusing and has made me chuckle a few times. It's a novel view of 90s LA from a teen transplanted from Rome. It must have been like arriving on a different planet!
At its best, this is a trite story that's less coming-of-age and more a dull game of 'what I remember from the early 90s.' None of the characters offer anything of interest, the protagonist is vacuous & ultimately a useless vehicle for any kind of narrative. This novel is a waste of space & an embarrassment to #YA & literary fiction
This is feeling more & more like a poor prose imitation of Sophia Coppola's movies. I'm dangerously close to marking this as #DNF
The Aeolian Islands that open part two
It's not that this isn't true about the US but Italians? Never has there been a less politically active nationality in modernity--unless we include reactionary xenophobia & rampant sexism. Which, when you think about it, makes the US the perfect place for Italians to migrate to
I just quit the book about a quarter through, but I'm willing to give the audio a try. I'm just not fully invested. Is there anyone giving this the hard sell? Do I just need to stick it out a little longer?
You have my attention.
3/5⭐️
Meh. It was okay. I didn't feel the character Eugenia. I couldn't like or dislike her. I feel the disconnection with the main character was the reason for the lower rating.
I finally finished a novel! Loved this coming-of-age story. The twists in the plot were a little predictable, but the characters! I just wanted to spend another 100 pages with them. Very real, very relatable. First #tbrbingo complete! To the left is my prize! #booksleeve #imobsessed #someonegetmeoffetsy
This may pull me out of my book/life slump! I love reading coming-of-age books about when I came-of-age. Teens in the early/mid-90s - this is for you.
Yay!!! 🎊🎊🎉🎉📚📚🎉🎉🎊🎊
My @24in48 prize is here!
Thank you @penguinrandomhouse 💜💜💜💜
Morning reading. ☀️📚❤️
#TBRtemptation post 3! About to be released. A YA coming-of-age novel set in 1992-94 Los Angeles, between major riots & a major earthquake. Eugenia's film-maker parents move to Hollywood, and the Italian teen must adapt to a huge new school, gangs, car-based culture, raves, etc. She befriends Henry & bewitching Deva and explores a whole new side of life. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
a very intriguing story of a young girl Eugenia. For me reading this book is such an extraordinary experience. It talks about different topics which I think really diverse; social differences, families, friends and self-finding. There is something with the first chapter that got me hooked with the whole story. Read full review at HTTP://noshelfcontroll.wordpress.com
