All Rights Reserved | Gregory Scott Katsoulis
In a world where every word and gesture is copyrighted, patented or trademarked, one girl elects to remain silent rather than pay to speak, and her defiant and unexpected silence threatens to unravel the very fabric of society. Speth Jime is anxious to deliver her Last Day speech and celebrate her transition into adulthood. The moment she turns fifteen, Speth must pay for every word she speaks ("Sorry" is a flat ten dollars and a legal admission of guilt), for every nod ($0.99/sec), for every scream ($0.99/sec) and even every gesture of affection. She's been raised to know the consequences of falling into debt, and can't begin to imagine the pain of having her eyes shocked for speaking words that she's unable to afford. But when Speth's friend Beecher commits suicide rather than work off his family's crippling debt, she can't express her shock and dismay without breaking her Last Day contract and sending her family into Collection. Backed into a corner, Speth finds a loophole: rather than read her speech rather than say anything at all she closes her mouth and vows never to speak again. Speth's unexpected defiance of tradition sparks a media frenzy, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps, and threatens to destroy her, her family and the entire city around them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ For the most part, I did enjoy this book. I have never read a book like it and it was interesting to think about. I could not imagine being charged for every word I spoke or even being charged to kiss someone. There were a few parts that were frantically weird or strange, but it‘s also a different world so I wouldn‘t expect to feel normal reading it. TW - Rape, Murder and Suicide

I've been looking forward to All Rights Reserved for what seems like forever! However, I'm not sure if this is the kind of book I'm looking for at the moment. Have any of you guys read either All Rights Reserved or the two others I'm considering, Night or Every Heart a Doorway?? If you have, please let me know in the comments what you thought! Thank you all! Have a goodnight❤️

tammysue I read Night.. it was a powerful and highly emotional book for me. ❤️ 6y

I just finished this book for my Adults reading YA book club and it really made me think about the freedom of speech and government control. A neat future dystopian novel where you have to pay for the words you say. A simple concept but it actually was very thought provoking and should make for a good discussion.

The magic in this story is the world-building: a world where every word and gesture are copyrighted, and wrist cuffs use the WiFi to track everything you say and do and charges you accordingly. When you cant pay anymore, you go into servitude. One girl challenges the system by keeping her mouth closed.

I cant wait for the next book! Such a cool concept, fantastic execution.

The gloomy weather fits right in with this book. I love the premise, but the middle of the story is dragging a little - I need for something new to happen!

I‘m DNFing this for now, I‘ve been reading it for over a week and still less than 100 pages in. I love the concept but it‘s not very original.

Amazing concept. The story could be made into a Black Mirror episode. 5 stars.

Started reading this last night. Pretty solid dystopian YA so far. Premise: every word, gesture, and product is copyrighted, which means an individual is charged a price for their use. The main character decides to remain silent rather than collect debt for speaking. Kind of reminds me of that forgettable Justin Timberlake movie In Time (anyone?!).

No love triangles so far. 🤞🏼

Very original story idea that was a good read! I did have a hard time with the main character yelling at her in my head at times but overall I recommend it

So currently reading this book and it's incredibly interesting it really makes you think and wonder how easily our lives could become similar and how they already are it makes you rethink what having rights really means to you what if someone made you pay for the words you speak how much louder would your actions speak?

This book was addictive, impossible to put down and scary all at once.

The whole concept of thw story is almost to real. I spent the bulk of time while reading, thinking about how long until this is no longer fiction but reality.

This was very well done and blew my mind!

This was a REALLY interesting book that made me think of so many different topics! The value of copyrights vs. open source, the value of money, the corruption of money in government, the role of internet, equal access to internet, isolation, creating new food, loss of language and voice, etc.

It did (vaguely) give me hints of Divergent and The Hunger Games. I loved the creepy underworld/rebels group particularly. It's slow to start but picks up.

I'm so mad. I ordered a book on Amazon and was sent an ARC which I didn't want or agree to (and is also not allowed - ARCs aren't supposed to be sold). Now I'm trying to return it but Amazon is trying to make me pay return shipping. I'm going to have to call and make a fuss.

I wanted SO BADLY to love this new YA dystopian story! It's been on my radar for months and I was ecstatic when I received an ARC, but it fell flat in a big way. I detailed it all (spoiler free) on my blog, but basically, the MC is totally unlikeable and the ending feels so forced. I won't continue the series. 😞

MASSIVE thanks to Harlequin Teen for this ARC of 'All Rights Reserved' by Gregory Scott Katsoulis & a signed bookplate! The premise of this book sounds incredible, and I can't wait to dig in. "When every word has a price, her silence could spark a revolution." On sale August 29, 2017.

Words matter. Words make ideas. They preserve truths and history. They express freedom and they shape it. Words mold our thoughts. That gives them value and power.
