The lovely @Sorceryandswords sent this to me and I plan to read it alongside this biography of Christina Rossetti that I already owned when I get a chance.
Love when I can pair with a #virago! #jbuk
Thank you so much
Well this is just beautiful 😍 #folio #foliofreaks @quirkyreader
Edit: Just noticed a printing error on the spine...last letters of name and surname missing 😣 not sure yet if it's going to bother me. Sent an email to Folio. 😬
Help! Folio's half price sale is on. The top one is a definite, but I can choose one other for my birthday next month from my partner. Please help me choose which one out of the other 6 I should get! I will probably get more later but I want to get Goblin Market before it sells out as it's limited stock! 😰#foliofreaks #foliosociety
I rarely see the complete Goblin Market poem so when I found these little books at half price books, I picked them up to enjoy. I loved Christina Rossetti but I was indifferent to Emily Bronte. I'm not a huge poetry lover so sometimes poetry just doesn't resonate with me.
A new little book of poetry. Does anyone else like poetry ? I certainly love some poems but quite often I am underwhelmed by most poetry I read, especially some modern poetry. But I always try and push myself to read more because every once and awhile I come across a poem that is just so awesome and spellbinding that I fall in love with the genre all over again.
Victorian poet Rossetti's dark and inventive verses touching on themes of death and love. Very bleak in some places but also quite lovely. I especially enjoyed the title poem, with its feminist take on the "fallen woman" trope and triumph of sisterly love. Illustration by Arthur Rackham.
Breakfast and continuing my reread of Rossetti. No real #Litsypartyofone action for me til later today though - market and chores in the morning then hanging out with my stepsister and nephew this aft (baby snuggles! 😍)
Day 23 #readingwomenmonth - 19th century authors. Poked around in my BritLit texts from uni to get ideas for this prompt and remembered that I really enjoyed Christina Rossetti's poems. Rereading the section on her now - and learned that she wrote the carol In the Bleak Mid-Winter! One of my favourites. (picture is from the poem Goblin Market, in The Longman Anthology of British Literature Volume B)
My #LitsyPartyofOne start is momentarily delayed as Callie-cat is being very helpful...
Not the same edition but look at the beautiful book I helped kickstart!
I cannot handle horror stories, but I remember reading this collection for a class. Several of Rossetti's poems creeped me out! #CreepyCovers
We must not look at goblin men,
We must not buy their fruits:
Who knows upon what soil they fed
Their hungry thirsty roots?
This was a lovely introduction ti Rossetti's work, and I especially loved "Goblin Market". The collection is full of whimsical, fairytale-like poems that made me glad and a little sad at the same time.
LBC for weekend.
