The Mayfly
The Mayfly: The chilling thriller that will get under your skin | James Hazel
9 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
With the suspense of JEFFERY DEAVER, the tension of THOMAS HARRIS and the gruesomeness of M. J. ARLIDGE, The Mayfly is a breathtaking debut that will have you leaving your lights on all night. A mutilated body discovered in the woods. A murderous plan conceived in the past. A reckoning seventy years in the making . . . When lawyer Charlie Priest is attacked in his own home by a man searching for information he claims Priest has, he is drawn into a web of corruption that has its roots in the last desperate days of World War Two. When his attacker is found murdered the next day, Priest becomes a suspect and the only way to clear his name is to find out about the mysterious House of Mayfly - a secret society that people will kill for. As Priest races to uncover the truth, can he prevent history from repeating itself?

• Arrived home a little while ago to a mountain of bookmail. These two I won from Readers First and I'm really excited to read them both! The Assassin of Verona is a William Shakespeare novel and is published September 21st. The Mayfly is out now! ✨#crimefiction #historicalfiction #booklover #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookblogger #bibliophile #met_createchange

It was a good book but I don't think I'll be buying Charlie Priest #2. Just really not my kind of story.

PirateJenny I read that as Cherie Priest at first and was quite confused 7y

The last book I read was a bit boring. So, I'm following it up with a highly–rated crime drama.

Pickpick

I did quite enjoy this book and found that it was well researched (in an area I didn‘t really know much about if I‘m being honest). Although grim in places I think it added to the storyline!

I liked Charlie Priest, what a character! Ex policeman turned lawyer, with a serial killer for a brother – what could go wrong here!?

The story moved at a fantastic pace with a great ending and a couple of red herrings thrown in to make your head spin.

There is no doubt that The Mayfly is a fascinating story that will definitely appeal to psychological thriller fans. The flashbacks and connections to the Second World War added a whole different level to what was already an intriguing plot and definitely made me appreciate this story even more. I had a few minor doubts, but those are just that: minor. All in all an excellent read!

4/5 stars
