The first in the seven Accursed Kings books, a series best known from George R.R. Martin's claim that it is the original Game of Thrones. The series tells the story of the fall of the French Capet dynasty in the 1300s. Sparse, elegant, byzantine in plot, and brutal, this book starts with the execution of the Templars and ends with the death of Philip the Fair. It moves quickly and has compelling characters that really existed.
Look what my lovely friend @Chrissyreadit sent me...this must be the best time to start a 7 book series AND be transported to a world away from this one! I‘ve heard so many good things about this series ( didn‘t know it was written in 1955) can‘t wait to dive in. Thank you for being so thoughtful Chrissy ♥️♥️
I usually end up not reading books I own because I stock up on library books. Since the library is closed, it is time to tackle this one! I have read this series many years ago and only remember that it was the most riveting thing I have ever read. So it is perfect for re-reading! Now with endorsement by George R.R. Martin - but Druon was first.

I got through this much more quickly what with being stuck at home. I know very little about French history, so there were more surprises. Some sex and violence, particularly with regard to executions, that made me glad I was reading in my second language and had to take a few pages to figure out what some of the words were 😬 Recommended!

Darn, book/world synchronicity off by two days! But I am glad I accepted the impulse to read this now.

Book 1 in the excellent Accursed Kings Series, which George R R Martin is a great fan of and said was the original Game of Thrones.

Really enjoyed The Accursed Kings Series by Maurice Druon. George R R. Martin calls Maurice Druon his hero and claims the Starks and Lannisters have nothing on the Capets and the Plantagenets. Now they‘ve been translated and all published in English thanks to George R R Martin‘s publishers they are well worth a read.

This wasn't like Game of Thrones at all :-( fantasy aside (because I know it's not fantasy) I wasn't intrigued :-(
#riotgrams Day 5 Royalty This has been on my TBR for a while but I feel like I need to finish all GOT books first.

This is the first book in The Accursed Kings Series by Maurice Druon. George R R Martin has described this as the original Game of Thrones, and like with A Game of Thrones it has plenty of #slipperypeople in it who are trying to usurp, or kill, the incumbent and become King of France. I am up to the fourth book and loving it. Thanks to @Melissa_J who introduced me to the series. #rocktober
This book took a little time to get into, especially as all the characters were introduced. However as we approached the second third of the book I was totally hooked and needed to find out what happened next. Clearly this book has set it up well for others that will follow in the series. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to continuing this series soon. I certainly recommend it to people who enjoy good quality historical fiction.
Since I have no past, I am without a present. And without a present I have no future.

Finally succumbed, following some recommendations from many of you, and started the Accursed Kings series by Maurice Druon. #Templars
I thought I'd choose a book I am aiming to get to this month for #cursedbooks. The Iron King is the first book in The Accursed Kings series, so I think this fits very nicely - looking forward to reading this. #whatawaytolive

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A really fun, engaging book full of political intrigue with a fantastic ending.
Always something interesting happening — I'm really enjoying this one!

Historical fiction about Philip the Fair, a king of France, and his advisors and family. This series of books inspired George R.R. Martin to write A Game of Thrones. I've read this one and it did have a GoT feel, minus the fantasy elements of course. Still haven't read the rest of the series though.
I read The Accursed Kings in Hungarian a long time ago. It is mindblowing - the intrigue, the action, the incredible research. It is fascinating that the 100 years war was ultimately the result of a Queen's infidelity... When I came to the US, I found they were not even translated! Now they are - George R.R.Martin endorsed the series as "the original Game of Thrones".
He is wrong. It is better.

There is a quote by George R.R. Martin at the top describing this book as the original Game of Thrones so...I bought it 😊
