Zombies, Run!
Zombies, Run!: Keeping Fit and Living Well in the Current Zombie Emergency | Naomi Alderman
6 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
'OUR FIRST JOB IS SURVIVAL. IF WE SURVIVE, WE LEARN, WHEN WE LEARN, WE MAKE TOMORROW BETTER THAN TODAY. THAT'S WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN: WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP ON GOING' The zombie apocalypse is here. We have all lost a lot, but we are surviving. Together we will overcome the outbreak but we need every man, women and child to do their bit. This is an informational guide to help you stay fit and healthy in both body and mind during the crisis. It includes: - Indoor activities that build the strength, stamina and flexibility you need to survive contact with the zombie hordes - Expertly-designed running, cycling and swimming programmes to build up your distance safely when venturing out for supplies - Advice on nutritious meals when resources are sparse and treats need to be rationed - Tips on building and maintaining a community and remaining fit of mind when humanity is pushed to the brink The advice within the pages of ZOMBIES, RUN! will prove the difference between life and death in the coming days, weeks and months. Humans are wondrous beings; this is not the end of us. WE CAN BECOME STRONGER. WE CAN BECOME FITTER. AND TOGETHER WE WILL SURVIVE.

I‘ve been a bit rubbish at posting my #BFC21 goals the last few months, so here‘s an achievement instead.

I discovered there‘s a Couch to 5K version of the Zombies Run! app. I‘m kind of obsessed. I‘m managing 2 rather than 3 runs a week (but that‘s 2 more than 0, right?) & I‘m loving it. Yes, I‘m still shambling along, but at least I‘m doing.

I‘ve also shelved the FitBit for August- am trying to focus more on getting outside than counting steps.

BookwormM Go you 3y
wanderinglynn That‘s awesome! Way to go! 🙌🏻 3y
squirrelbrain I was intrigued by this when you mentioned it in your letter….do you have to run away from Zombies? 🤔 3y

rockpools @BookwormM 🤣🤣 It‘s SO obviously my thing, isn‘t it?! 🧟‍♀️ 🤔 3y
rockpools @wanderinglynn 🤣 Thank you! 3y
rockpools @squirrelbrain Like I said, a tad obsessed - sorry 😁 In a nutshell, though… yes. There‘s a lot of story to it, though - you‘re in training as a ‘Runner‘ in an area surrounded by Zoms, so you‘re doing your training run/walk things but there‘s always some sort of incident or close shave ss you go. I blame Litsy. Zombies are so not my thing, even if I grew up in Shaun of the Dead territory, but I‘m finding this massively entertaining! 3y
squirrelbrain I don‘t do running…do you think I could walk quickly away from zombies?! 🤣 3y
Chrissyreadit I love it!!! 3y
rockpools @squirrelbrain Oh definitely! Many of them only shamble along, apparently, so a brisk walk gets you nicely out of the way. #LiveAndLearn (Who even am I?!) 3y

I‘ve been a bit absent on Litsy the last few days as things have been manic, but here is my post for #BFC ! Going for a run/jog is my favourite workout! I‘m not the fastest, although I am making progress, but it gets me out the house into the beautiful countryside and for that I am very grateful! Hopefully it will cool down a little though as I don‘t do well in the heat anyway, let alone when trying to exercise! #BookFitnessChallenge #BookDragons

Two things got me through my run this morning, Zombies, Run! and my first ever #Litsylove pen pal letter! I made myself wait until I got back before I opened it and had my best run for a while which shows how excited I was! Now just impatiently waiting for my order of stationary to arrive (didn‘t realise how woefully unprepared I was) so I can get writing and replying!

Thank you so much @Lovesbooks87 💕

#CatsofLitsy

Lovesbooks87 Yay! So glad it made it to you! Your cat is so cute! 5y
Princess-Kingofkings I just agree. Everywhere I go I search for stationary and it is not easy to find. 5y
Hufflepuffle @Princess-Kingofkings I know right! It is harder than I realised. 5y
Hufflepuffle @lovesbooks87 he uses that cuteness to get away with anything he likes! 😸 5y
Purrfectpages What a cute face! 5y

I made a fun little discovery on Audible yesterday. On Audible Channels, there is a podcast called Zombies, Run! The Way of all Flesh, written by Naomi Alderman (The Power). It‘s six short episodes of an English country manor house mystery, except it‘s after the apocalypse and they‘re hiding out from zombies. It‘s silly and funny and easy to listen to in short chunks. #podcasts #zombies

RiotMom I used this app for awhile when I ran! (It was a very short foray into running, turns out I hate it 😂) but the storyline was awesome! 7y
AlaMich @RiotMom I didn't realize it was actually an app (for running, no less). Huh...Yeah, running...you either love or you'd rather have bamboo shoved under your fingernails. 7y

For the #WholeLifeChallenge some of us Littens are doing, I decided to start running since I've always wanted to be a runner. This app is super cool and puts you in a story where you are in a zombie apocalypse and have to collect supplies/go on missions. It was SO FUN and I thought you guys might appreciate it because it feels like you're in a story.

So excited to get healthier with fellow Littens!

Alicia Yay!! That is awesome! 🏃🏽‍♀️👊🏽 7y
kendrastephaniekaryn I love this app! I need to start using it again. 🙈 7y

Cupofjo That's awesome! I had started running few years back, then broke my ankle (not related to the running) and then got sick... so never went back to it :( 7y
maximoffs @Alicia it was so much fun! @kendrastephaniekaryn it's so funnnn it actually motivates me to move my butt. @Cupofjo oh noooooo :( I hope you're better now! 7y
Cupofjo @steverogers yes I'm better now, but probably won't be able to run again... I did enjoy it tho!! 7y
Cortg What's the name of the app? Sounds fun! 7y
maximoffs @Cupofjo glad you're feeling better ❤️ @Cortg it's called "zombies run!" 7y
NataliePatalie @Blueberry this sounds cool! 7y
Blueberry @NataliePatalie Thought you would like it. 7y
Cortg Cool! I'm not much of a runner but I'm going to let my kids know about it! Maybe I'll put on my running kicks and give it another whirl. 7y
DivineDiana Sounds like fun! And just might increase my exercise! 7y
readinginthedark Oh fun! I've been using Habitica to stay on top of my to-do list and daily tasks, so this is right up my alley! (edited) 7y
