This true crime book by one of my favorite documentary filmmakers is still on my TBR, but I hope to read it sooner rather than later! Morris knows a thing or two about wrongful convictions. His '88 documentary Thin Blue Line was instrumental in overturning the wrongful conviction of Randall Adams.

Pickpick

1st book finished #24B4Monday I can see why Morris would be obsessed w/ this case.Jeffrey McDonald.
He‘s a doctor , a Green Beret.Lovely wife , 2 kids .2/17/70 Jeffrey calls for help.MPs arrive to find a horrible scene , Jeff wounded , his family,dead.
He accused a band of hippies, this is just after Manson, Pig is written on the headboard. Was the crime scene secured? Did a narrative of McDonalds guilt influence all aspects of the case?🔽

Leftcoastzen I asked 2 people who remember from the time .1 believed he was innocent, 1 had read & seen TV show Fatal Vision , & believed he was guilty. 4y

LibrarianRyan I agree cheetos, or make up. I doubt nail polish. It wouldn't smear across the page that way (speaking from experience on that one). Let your library know when you turn it and and they can try to clean it. 4y
Leftcoastzen @LibrarianRyan it might even be ink from a stamp pad .Librarians were on it , & wrote notes that book is stained .Librarians are the best ! 4y
ValerieAndBooks Especially when the text is discussing a body 😱 4y

Anyone watch Errol Morris' Netflix docuseries "Wormwood"? I found it to be compelling, if a bit in need of editing.

kalinichta Gonna put that on my watchlist. (My real watchlist, not the one on Netflix that I add things to and then completely forget about/am never in the mood for.) 6y
vivastory @kalinichta I have movies on my Netflix list I added years ago 😬😂I thought it was great, if a little too long 6y
Suet624 Thanks for the recommendation. Put it in my queue. 6y

The library has a true crime display, naturally I browsed the titles & I ended up checking out these two. I was unaware of the Errol Morris book. One of the greatest documentary filmmakers, Morris is no amateur when it comes to crime. His 1988 film "The Thin Blue Line" resulted in the subject's exoneration. The Devil's Ticket features the following sentence in Erik Larson's blurb, "Bridge and murder, two of mankind's most engrossing pursuits."

Kaye Oh boy ! Another true crime lover. 😁 6y
kalinichta I picked up the Morris book from a dollar bin a while back, but haven't read it. Will be interested to see what you think of it. 6y

TricksyTails Yay for true crime!!♥️ 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails Do you read a lot of true crime? 6y
vivastory @Kaye One of my favorite nonfiction genres! 6y
TricksyTails Well, I'm in a reading slump so not much reading of anything happening presently 😖 but I grew up reading true crime. I've always had a fascination with the twisted minds of serial killers. I want to read more current books. Do you read it often? 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails Not as much as I'd like. There are so many genres I'm interested in, it's hard to find time. There's a new film adaptation of 6y
TricksyTails I'm with you on that. So many books! Huh. Interesting! Did you read it? I'm trying to imagine a film version. I'm sort of thinking it actually might be better than the graphic novel. 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails I really enjoyed the graphic novel. The film looks like a faithful adaptation 6y
TricksyTails I enjoyed it, too. I'll have to check it out. 😆👍 Love a good serial killer story. 6y
