Christmas in London
Christmas in London: A Novel | Anita Hughes
18 posts | 15 read | 7 to read
Set during London's most festive time of year and filled with delicious food Anita Hughes' Christmas in Londonis about love and friendship, and the season's most important lesson: learning how to ask for and give forgiveness. Its a week before Christmas and Louisa Graham is working twelve hour shifts at a bakery on Manhattan's Lower East Side. When a young cooking show assistant comes in from the rain and begs to buy all the cinnamon rolls on her tray, she doesnt know what to do. Louisa is just the baker, and they aren't hers to sell. But the show burned the rolls they were supposed to film that day; so she agrees. The next morning, Louisa finds out that her cinnamon rolls were a hit, but the star of the show was allergic, and the whole crew is supposed to leave for London that afternoon. They want Louisa to step in for their annual Christmas Eve Dinner TV special at Claridge's. Its a great opportunity, and Digby Bunting, Louisas famous baking idol, will be there. Even if he does seem more interested in her than her food. And then theres Kate, the show's beautiful producer. On their first day in London she runs into the skinny boy she jilted at St. Andrew's in Scotland ten years ago. Now hes a handsome, brilliant mathematician, and newly divorced. Their familiar spark is still there, but so is the scar of how they left things. Kate and Louisa are busy preparing for the show, but old and new flames are complicating their work.

This one was kind of weird. It told the stories of Louisa who is a baker in NYC, she plans to open her own restaurant in a year, and makes the best cinnamon rolls which brings her to London for a TV show that I didn‘t quite understand. And Kate who went to school in Scotland, is the producer of the tv show and was in love with a dude who she hasn‘t seen in 10 years because conflict and no talking. Just felt like something was a bit off.

TheSpineView Sounds disappointing. 😦😏 2y

TheAromaofBooks I bailed on a book of hers last year - I just didn't jive with the characters at all. 2y

Finished this the other day. This wasn't too bad. Coincidentally I listened to this and The Holiday Swap, alternating between the two at times, and both involved baking. I think I like this one more.

I‘m not usually into Christmas romances, but I thought I‘d give this a shot. Last year I read one in December I really liked and this seemed like it had the same vibe... it didn‘t. I got bored, by both the story and the narration. So... onto the next! #bookspinnbingo @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks No sense spending time on a book that's not for you!! 3y

Just what I wanted in a Christmas romance - new and rekindled love, fantastic location, and great descriptions of food. Some parts might have been a little improbable, but I can overlook that in a holiday romance.

The only reason I finished this book is Bc I didn‘t really have any others on my tbr with snow on the cover and it was a quick read. It was lame . It‘s why I don‘t typically read cozy and light stuff. I really hated how the characters kept getting mad and then making up and doing the same exact thing! I liked the description of all the pastries and baking. I do really want to find a cozy, light book to like. Any recommendations? #readingwithmaja

TheBookAddict That doesn't sound very appealing. You have to at least have a little bit of character growth. I'm sorry I can't be of much help with cozies, I usually don't read them. 4y
maich Thanks for join my reading challenge.😘 So sorry you didn't like the book. I love that kind of books. This on is going on my tbr. 4y
MissAimz_55 I hope you enjoy it! I am trying to branch out in my reading life but I guess this time it didn‘t work, I‘ll keep trying. Also I was listening to it on audio so I may have liked it better reading it. Maybe it‘s one you need to curl up with, not listen to in traffic 😂 4y

I gave it about 100 pages. For me- the female characters were too one dimensional and way too eager to please the men in their lives.

One way to get me to read your book is to have "in London" in the title. This was a cute book that was enjoyable over the holidays. It was sort of like a Hallmark movie written by Sophie Kinsella. Totally predictable but fun. One thing I really liked was how important careers were to the two main characters, since that's sometimes left out of these kinds of books.

I couldn‘t resist this when I was out shopping. I have been looking for a fun holiday book so this fits the bill!
