It's half eleven at night, I'm sitting in the kitchen watching my cats take turns on the giant feeding bowl that's large enough for four cats. 😵🐈
I don't dare to leave the kitchen, they seem to only eat when I'm in the room. 😵🐈
When did my cats get so strange? They used to eat out of this bowl at the same time, only after I had left the room.

The mind boggles.

Mimi28 My cats are getting weird like that too. Sometimes they come to me, and I get up and it‘s like they just wanted me to walk them to the kitchen, because they just start eating the dry food that is already down there. My 16 year old only takes a few bites at a time. I keep having to put the plate and now even the water in front of her. I think they just like your company and companionship sometimes. It is a little weird though, lol 😻😻 6y

jfalkens My three cats are all different on eating preferences. Danica likes to be secret and not share the bowl with anyone. Joban likes to eat with one of the other cats but prefers wet food. Pickle prefers to eat with me nearby. Since Pickle switched to set feedings(she got too chubby) she follows me around yelling at me when her foods up and swats at me if I don't put her food down if I walk by it or ignore her too long. 6y

julesG @jfalkens My cat, Ghost, starts clawing at the cupboard where the food is if she's really hungry. Lately both cats have shown strange eating habits (I might have been away too often), and they don't seem to like their regular food anymore. I'm trying to introduce a new brand 😵 They are more picky than both my kids. 6y

jfalkens @julesG we keep the wet food in the pantry and Joban knows it so if you walk by the pantry(where we store food, our shoes, recycling, and by the door outside and to the basement) she starts crying very loudly. 6y

My cat hates her water bowl. Leave a cup of water or a puddle of water in the sink and she's fine.

#CatsOfLitsy parents this is my first indoor-only cat, what am I doing wrong?
She licks the sauce off her food (Whiskas pouches) and leaves the meat. But she eats the dry cat food, even the really cheap stuff.
She only drinks water if I leave some in the sink.

Any advice on how I can make her use her water bowl and eat all of her wet food?

quietlycuriouskate Cats are laws unto themselves. Ours would only ever drink water they had "found" and refused the tinned cat food with the gravy: they'd only eat the vile stuff in jelly. 6y

CarolynM Leo is exactly the same with food (and won't even do the licking if the food has any meat that didn't come from a bird). 6y

Ms_T My girl drinks from the sink and one of my boys pulls food from the bowl onto the floor before eating it. Cats are their own bosses so I wouldn‘t worry too much about your gorgeous girl 😻 6y

Beckys_Books My cat won't use the litter box but doesn't have accidents in the house. She will find you or wake you up to let her out. 6y

LibrarianRyan My grandmothers cat Sam, who I took in after she passed, for the longest time only drank bottled water out of the cap of the bottle. Moving in with me and being around the dogs stoped that. He started eating and drinking out of the dog bowls to piss the dogs off. Healthiest that cat had been in 10 years. My mothers cat only drinks the water out of the coffee maker reservoir. Cats are weird. It's why I have dogs. 6y

I just noticed that the little lady always puts one paw into whatever water source she uses to drink from. Wonder what other quirks she'll develop. 😸 6y

CoffeeCatsBooks I agree on the water fountain. Also, my cats like it when their water is in a different room from their food. That said, I still catch one of mine drinking the water from soaking dishes. Cats! 😹 6y

AmyG My cat likes what we call “random water”. I put a bowl in the bedroom and one in the family room. She loves those...just not the one next to her food. 6y

Tamra They are so goofy! Mine likes to drink out of my water glass on my night stand. 😑 6y

drokka I had a cat that didn't like soft food either. I think it might have been a texture thing. I have texture issues, so I can relate. Or maybe there's a flavour in those the cat doesn't like. As for water drinking, I've got nothing other than it's the idea of communal sharing, like a pride thing in the wild? 6y

Yellowpigeon One of my cats is the same. Their water bowl which is changed daily? No! The water in the sink after I wash my face? Yes!!! 🤢we even bought one of filtered water fountains. Still a big ole nope. 6y

tournevis Honestly, just stop giving her wet food. She's making her choice clear. As for water, she seems to prefer fresh, maybe try one of the cascading water bowl/fountain things. The water trickles and circulates. 6y

OrangeMooseReads All totally normal cat things. Had a cat for 18 yrs that would suck the gravy from wet food and then throughout the day munch on it. If she‘s not eating it at all I would just not give it to her. You can try moving her water bowl away from her food. I‘ve read that cats will drink more water if it is in a different place than food. My older 2 cats drink from faucets and the shower as well as their bowl. 6y

OrangeMooseReads Also Izzy gives me dirty looks if she doesn‘t get filtered water from the fridge, doesn‘t matter that it won‘t be cold still in 30 minutes. 6y

[DELETED] 206653737 Cats are such strange creatures. I used to work at a vets office and there was this cat that would not drink from his bowl but would cup his paw and dip water from the bowl and drink it that way. 😻 6y

LeahBergen We had a cat that would only drink from his own glass of water left next to the sink. Never a bowl, only his own glass. 😄 6y
