Disturbing, graphic, and heartbreaking.
I almost bailed due to the violence perpetrated against dogs, so be forewarned if that is a dealbreaker for you.

Another Pendergast mystery this week! It‘s excellent, although scaredy-cat me sometimes had to wait till morning to continue reading. Like “Cabinet of Curiosities,” the who and why dunnits completely blindsided me in a good way. I also enjoyed the surprisingly sweet subplot of Pendergast‘s relationship with his temporary teenage assistant. If you like creepy mysteries with unusual (to put it mildly) solutions, this series might be for you.
This was well done. Maybe cause it was read by Scott Brick or because the pompous nature of Pendergast was tamped down due to the setting. After the events of Cabinet of Curiosities, Pendergast is on “Vacation”, and ends up in Medicine Creek, KS. Which coincidentally has a ghastly murder prior to his arrival in town. After several more macabre scenes unfold and rumors of a curse, the deductive nature of Pendergast takes center stage.
About as close as I get to reading any horror stories. These are scary enough for me. #TemptingTitles #WithLife @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Loved this one. Pendergast is on vacation and decides to use his vacation to solve some murders in a small town in Kansas.

Here are my plans for #SeriesLove2023 I plan to catch up on The Pendergast series and start on the Nora Kelly one. I've read half the series before and recently reread the first three. So now I just have 19 to read or reread, plus the three in the next one 🤞🏻

#59 of 2020. I love the Agent Pendergast series and this book is no exception. I find this intellectual quirky character hilarious and highly entertaining. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one started out especially slow...or maybe I just wasn‘t in the right frame of mind when I began it. But it definitely got better. Some of the characters were a bit predictable but I enjoyed the overall story and “wild goose chase” parts of it. Oh boy though, the epilogue really tied things up nicely...and I think even Pendergast was a bit disturbed during parts of the book.
The only thought going through my head during the later scenes in the caves was, “Do these guys get paid by the word?” My enduring crush on Pendergast will keep me coming back to the series. I also enjoyed the introduction of Corrie Swanson, but I‘ve come to accept that this is an audio only series for me, as I‘m somewhat concentration deficient at the moment and it‘s easier for me to listen than actively read it.
“He stopped just outside the circle of lights. Here, buried in the sea of corn, the murmur of the voices, the faint hum of the generator, and the #bizarre violence of the crime scene seemed far away. A breeze came drifting past, only a slight movement of the muggy air, but it set the corn around him swaying and rustling.” #QuotsyOct19 #AllHallowsRead #GiveAScaryBook
I had to scroll through my books to find an idea for some of these. I‘m terrible with character names but as soon as I saw American Gods on my list, I remembered Shadow. I got pretty lucky with the letter S, as one of my favorite authors‘ name begins with the letter.

I enjoyed Detective Prendergast and his Sherlockian traits, and I also really liked the character of Corrie Swanson in this creepy thriller as they seek to stop a serial killer/monster? What is a monster, or perhaps a better question could be what makes a monster?
Oh my gosh this is a suspenseful thriller! Creepy cornfields! I still hold by breath when I look at this book on my shelf. #AllHallowsRead
And when the used bookstore calls to say one of your wishlist books has arrived, you make a detour on your way home. While there, why not pick up some middle school nostalgia ($5 Christopher Pike collections!!) and the first book in a new series, especially since the store is having a BOGO 50% sale? #bookhaul Under $15 for this stack!

I have no idea if Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child are #besties but I am sure glad they write together! I have to admit I have not read the whole series and what I have read is out of order (gasp!) this one is hands down my favorite (so far)
This book also makes the list of one of my favorites of all time. I have 2 copies of this book one to keep - and one to lend.
Sunshine , coffee , bookstore (Third Place Books ...Seattle WA) = perfection
Ok .... hmmmm grabbed this from Half Priced Books 📚... believe I will cozy up and read before bed
My #AllHallowsRead TBR stack (tho there's a few more on my Kindle)
Since Good Omens is clearly the top choice, I will share one of my other #favoriteauthorcollaborations.
Last year I flew through all of the Pendergast novels in just a few months. Some are a little out there but all kept me riveted.
