Clockwork Boys | T Kingfisher
9 posts | 8 read | 5 to read
A paladin, an assassin, a forger, and a scholar ride out of town. It's not the start of a joke, but rather an espionage mission with deadly serious stakes. T. Kingfisher's new novel begins the tale of a murderous band of criminals (and a scholar), thrown together in an attempt to unravel the secret of the Clockwork Boys, mechanical soldiers from a neighboring kingdom that promise ruin to the Dowager's city.If they succeed, rewards and pardons await, but that requires a long journey through enemy territory, directly into the capital. It also requires them to refrain from killing each other along the way! At turns darkly comic and touching, Clockwork Boys puts together a broken group of people trying to make the most of the rest of their lives as they drive forward on their suicide mission.

Ah thank you T. Kingfisher. Reading the first book in this duology was like a breath of fresh air, I just inhaled the whole thing in nearly one sitting. I seem to keep forgetting how much I enjoy her writing, and she does seem to keep getting better and better. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and a half.

Now onto the next one!

esurient I loved these! Well, I loved the first one, then ran and hid midway through the second because I got an exciting bit and I am a great coward. 🙄 8mo

The first of T Kingfisher‘s Clocktaur Wars duology, AKA UrsulaV fixes paladins, this is an excellent fantasy read. Featuring theft-by-paperwork, assasins, paladins and enchanted tattoos this is a book I highly reccond!

I am utterly on board with this step one to writing a book: Piss off an author by a poor execution of a neat idea.

Also, the world needs heaps more stories regarding ninja accountants like whoa.

With just 30 minutes left in November I squeezed one last read into the month!

I love T Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon's works & this book was no exception. She has a particularly deft hand when it comes to characters, making them all feel like real and interesting people. A lot of this novel's action takes place on the road. In a different author's hands that might've dragged, but I was so hooked that I sped through it in two days. Onto the next!

Kind of steampunk/fantasy that‘s heavier on the fantasy. Split into two parts (the second is “The Wonder Engine”). Good adventure with some unconventional characters including a wombat-like race. Gets dark in the last 1/4 of the second part with a plot twist I wasn‘t expecting. Well written.
