Give the Dark My Love
Give the Dark My Love | Beth Revis
A young alchemist turns to dark magic when a deadly plague sweeps through her homeland in this epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis. Seventeen-year-old Nedra Brysstain leaves her home in the rural, northern territories of Lunar Island to attend the prestigious Yugen Academy with only one goal in mind: master the trade of medicinal alchemy. A scholarship student matriculating with the children of Lunar Island's wealthiest and most powerful families, Nedra doesn't quite fit in with the other kids at Yugen. Until she meets Greggori "Grey" Astor. Grey is immediately taken by the brilliant and stubborn Nedra, who he notices is especially invested in her studies. And that's for a good reason: a deadly plague has been sweeping through the North, and it's making its way toward the cities. With her family's life--and the lives of all of Lunar Island's citizens--on the line, Nedra is determined to find a cure for the plague. Grey and Nedra grow close, but as the sickness spreads and the body count rises, Nedra becomes desperate to find a cure. Soon, she finds herself diving into alchemy's most dangerous corners--and when she turns to the most forbidden practice of all, necromancy, even Grey might not be able to pull her from the darkness.

How do I start this? I love the way Revis writes. I fell in love with her writing with Across the Universe. She has a way of drawing readers in. Her characters are complex with so many layers. Her plots have more twists & turns than other writers; This was no different. I was intrigued the entire time I was reading. I can't wait to read the next installment of this story. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Nedra & Grey. #LitsyLove

It took me a little while to get into this one. It has a very original story line. I very much enjoyed the ride watching all the challenges Nedra had to face but this book left me wanting more.

I had much higher hopes for this book. Even though I enjoyed some of it a lot, most of it was "eh". About the time you thought the story was picking up, it suddenly slowed down again. The ending is abrupt but I know that is a segway into the next book. My issue with the ending is the fact that it feels rushed when the rest of the book was so slow. I probably will not pick up the next book. #audiobook #scribd #ya #yafantasy

Give the Dark My Love feels like two different books. Well over the first half is filled with exposition and reads a bit like historical fiction and moves a bit slow. Then at the point necromancy escalates it becomes full of revenants and reads more like a zombie thriller. I enjoyed the book more at this point, but the switch feels so abrupt that the change is a bit too discordant to work properly.

Hmmm...okay I really enjoyed the mc and her focus on science and research. I now notice pieces of the cover that work with the actual story which I LOVE when they do that. Take the time to connect the cover and story. The ending had a ton of twists but full disclosure that none of them really shocked me and I'm blind to most betrayals and twists. The romance:
Was it necessary? Naw.
Was it character development? Naw.
Needed? Naw.
Enjoyable? Meh.

I loved how dark this one got, quickly but in a believable way. Also, lots of YA necromancy this year! I‘m not mad at it. I do wish there had been slightly more/better world-building.

The story didn‘t make a ton of sense but I did like the idea. The world was both too small and too undefined.

This book started out a bit slow for me, as I feared it might be too young for me at first, but man am I glad I stuck in there! This book had some unexpected twists and got very dark very quickly in a good way, if that's possible. Looking forward to learning more about the magic in this universe in the sequel.

"Love wasn't sweet and pure. Love crept slowly, like a river rising, seeping into the Earth, saturating it, spilling over the banks, drowning everything in its wake."

Necromancy is bad. Learned that the hard way in Oblivion.

I love Beth Revis. She‘s written a great dark fantasy that is different from anything I‘ve read lately. Highly recommended.

So excited for this book! 😄 It sounds dark and intriguing; just perfect for fall! 🍁😁
Nedra is attending school for medicinal alchemy but a skill of a darker sort is calling her name. 😯 I‘ve also heard it may include monsters in the dark, which is my absolute favorite! 😄🙌

My friends are all at the State Fair, but since I don‘t like fair food, big groups of people, or public transpo—I am at home reading with tons of coffee. I think I made the right choice here.

LibrarianRyan Ohhhhhh. Didn‘t realize that was out yet. It‘s on my must have list. I love Revis. 6y
