A fun fantasy read. I don't love political intrigue, it's one of my least favorite features of fantasy books, but this book was still fun even witu the heavy focus on the ruling families drama. Loved having a gender fluid witch protagonist and a protagonist exploring her identity. #Fantasy #LGBTQ

Time for some audiocrafting! I'm just starting this book and I'm super excited because I loved The Heartbreak Bakery, so I'm really looking forward to reading a fantasy book by Capetta. #LitsyCrafters

4 💫💫💫💫 This was a cute YA fantasy read. Teodora learns she has magic and uses that to gain power and change herself to a boy so she can have more privileges. This happens when her father dies, in away she uses her magic to cope with her grief too. Enjoyable quick read. #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

There were some really cool parts but I just couldn‘t connect with anyone in the story. I didn‘t care about them at all. And I need more info on the magic. Why? How?

Unique #YA fantasy is hard to find, but this is one! The worldbuilding is inspired by pre-unification 19th century Italy. Teodora is a daughter of the mafia Di Sangro family--she's also a strega who turns enemies into inanimate objects. She has to journey to the capital when her father falls magically ill. Along for the ride is Cielo, a genderfluid shape-shifting strega. Thoughtful interrogations of politics, gender identity, and the patriarchy.

3.5 stars

I really loved the setting (pre-unification Italy inspired), the main characters and the magic system; the strega were so interesting! The ending felt very rushed and left me wanting more. Overall though I enjoyed the story and recommend it.

P.S. Cielo gave me a Wizard Howl vibe from Howl‘s Moving Castle and I loved it.

emtobiasz All you had to say was “wizard Howl vibe” and I‘m sold! 6y

An amazing book that speaks to what it‘s like to be genderfluid. Great fantasy world and writing with deeper meaning of death to the LGBTQA community. It also shines a light on sexism. All in all it‘s great!

Just finished an ARC of this lovely queer fantasy about a gender-bending strega (witch) who turns her family‘s enemies into beautiful or useful objects. I seriously loved the magic in this world and the Mafia-esque feel of the familial politics! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I won this #arc on #BookishFirst by reading a sample and submitting a review of the sample.

I am so excited to read the whole book, it sounded so intriguing and I didn't want the sample to end!

This gender-bending love story twisted up with shape-shifting magic, Italian folklore, and a land ruled by crime families is...BRILLIANT. I meant to just read ‘The Prologue‘ but couldn‘t put it down! The characters and story are beautiful. Add it to your TBR!
