Amazing book featuring a strong Gujarati girl who learns to find her voice through rap. Great Native Hawaiian and Asian American characters, and an ending to make you cry. As an Indigenous person I loved seeing strong Native characters who live life on their own terms. Highly recommended! And I love this cover!!! #weneeddiversebooks #readersunite

A powerful emotional story about getting through difficult times through the support of family (both blood and otherwise) and self-expression. Rani's raps about her experience are so lyrical and filled with such confidence and power, it made me wish I had a friend like her that I could consider part of my family.

Having one heck of a time with this one. I really wanted it to work.

I had high hopes for this book but ended up bailing on it just 20 pages in. I didn't feel great about some cultural appropriation issues, but in the end it was clunky writing (like in the picture above) that sealed its fate.
