In this terrifying prequel novel to theNew York Timesbestselling Asylum series, a teen is wrongfully committed to the Brookline psychiatric hospital and must find a way out before he becomes the next victim of the evil warden s experiments. With the page-turning suspense and unsettling found photographs from real asylums that ledPublishers Weeklyto callAsylum a strong YA debut, Escape from Asylumis perfect for fans ofMiss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The nightmare is just beginning.Ricky Desmond has been through this all before. If he could just get through to his mother, he could convince her that he doesn t belong at Brookline. From the man who thinks he can fly to the woman who killed her husband, the other patients are nothing like him; all he did was lose his temper just a little bit, just the once. But when Ricky is selected by the sinister Warden Crawford for a very special program a program that the warden claims will not cure him but perfect him Ricky realizes that he may not be able to wait for his mom a second longer. With the help of a sympathetic nurse and a fellow patient, Ricky needs to escape now.Set long before Dan, Abby, and Jordan ever walked the hallways of the Brookline asylum back when it was still a functioning psych ward and not a dorm Escape from Asylumis a mind-bending and scary installment in the Asylum series that can stand on its own for new readers or provide missing puzzle pieces for series fans."

Ricky Desmond has just been taken to Brookline Asylum due to his acting out which included breaking his stepfather's wrist. The asylum is strange but quiet enough but all Ricky wants to do is contact his mother so he can go home. He's been in such places before but has always managed to convince his mother to take him back but the excuses & evasions he gets from the nurses when he requests to make a call (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf makes him think that this time he\'s more a prisoner than a patient. When the Warden selects him for a special treatment program, things take a more sinister turn.

This is a prequel to the first book in the series & is set in the 1960s when the asylum was still up & running. The plot itself starts off well although it becomes a little muddled towards the end, but the characters let it down.
1mo
OutsmartYourShelf They don\'t feel like real people & therefore it\'s difficult to care. It should have been easy to get the reader invested with Ricky\'s bisexuality & Kay being transgender & how this contributed to their being placed in the asylum, but they\'re very thinly drawn. There\'s also the slight paranormal angle (such as the description of the Warden\'s head being turned almost all the way round at one point) which never really goes anywhere. 1mo

Book 18🎧

A prequel to the entire Asylum series. Ricky is wrongfully admitted to the Asylum and soon realizes just how the Warden is trying “cure” his patients.

I preferred the main series more than the prequels but not a bad listen, just wanted a bit more🤷🏼‍♀️

The setting of my book is an insane asylum. This affects the plot because it tells us were the character will be.

I recommend this book to whoever like scary stories and I would not recommend this book to whoever doesn't like scary stories because they would not understand the first couple chapters

#deweys24readathon started at 5am for me so I was up at 4 getting ready. This is the face my dog Lady gave me when I turned on the light and started making noise. She's not a morning dog in her old age. 😂😂 #readathon #readathonpets

Slajaunie Poor girl! 6y
Allydanielle88 @Slajaunie I'm going to get her a treat for waking her up. And she'll get pampered. 6y

This book is just so so creepy. I really liked it. I cant wait to read the rest of the series because i would love to know more about Nurse Ash and the Warden. I would also like to know more about what happened to the boys father at Brookline. The book didnt give too much information, but it was just enough to get you interested in whats going on.

I have never felt totally effected by the events that were happening to Ricky.. I felt his pain and sorrow and I just wanted to be able to help him. I also loved how all of the final pieces came together from the rest of her books. It was the perfect ending to my favourite series. (Though if Madeleine wants to write more, I wouldn't object) 5/5 ⭐️

This was probably my favorite in the series. I really liked the background and how it tied in with the other books and the novellas. It was a page turner and very suspenseful. I highly recommend the whole series.

CleverGirl This sounds great! I've never heard of this series before! 8y

Trying to get in some reading (audiobook style) while working. I need to cram in as much reading as possible if I want to place at all for the #BookishOlympics! This is really good so far! I'm enjoying this prequel more than the last book in the main Asylum trilogy.

Listening to the audiobook of this while baking dulce de leche sandwich cookies. I really like the narrator, but I wish he spoke a little faster. Unfortunately when I tried to increase the speed, it sounded a little garbled. I'm really enjoying this prequel to the series so far! I've been switching between this and Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell for the #bookisholympics challenge. 😀

Reading this amazing prequel. Wonderfully written, and I 💖 the pictures in it. The fact that the author is able to incorporate pictures into her writing... 😍 anyway, this is a beautifully haunting read.

Picking up the next installment of the Asylum series. I have been addicted to this series from the very first book and it has never taken me longer than a couple of hours to read one of them. Let's see if I can keep up that record
