It is hard to properly rate/review the Star Wars Legends collection. There is so much discussed in this book that ultimately doesn't matter, since, even if they incorporate aspects of it into canon, they would have to re-explain those aspects anyway. Still, there is a lot of interesting conversation; the specifics about the difference between sith and Jedi and the nature of the force, more explanation of midiclorians. Interesting stuff.

Bookwomble You've hit on why I've never got past the film novelisations (apart from Splinter of the Mind's Eye), as there seems little point when Lucas Film keeps saying they're no longer canon. I guess they can be approached as What Ifs? or Elseworlds and enjoyed as romps in the Star Wars sandbox 😊 1y
TieDyeDude @bookwomble Yeah... I've read a good chunk of the new Disney canon novels and will likely keep reading the new releases, but, despite the fun of What If and the much more experimental/less homogenized stories, I don't think I'll be delving into any more of the Legends books. Too much else to read. 1y

The story is just as much about the rise of Palpatine as Darth Sidious as it is the story of Sith Lord Darth Plagueis the Wise. The author does a great job of showing the cunning and brilliance of the Sith as they design and implement the fall of the Jedi and the Republic in a plan that takes decades. Really enjoyed it.

Luceno's word structure, or prose, is incredible. The descriptions are extremely vivid. The visuals he produces really stand out from the pages, making this book one of the most descriptive books I've read in the Expanded Universe. The story is so ominous, and it gives incredible insight as to how the Sith have failed in the past and how they succeeded in their quest to rule the galaxy. #starwars #expandeduniverse

BookwormAHN Good to know, that book is high on my tbr. 2y

Unabridged Audiobook (7/10):
The unabridged audiobook production of this novel is brilliant. All around, I enjoyed learning more of the Sith in general, the legendary Darth Plagueis the Wise, and the rise of Darths Sidious, Maul, and Count Dooku. There‘s so much politics involved in this story spanning roughly 5 decades. Not only does this make me want more from the history of Palpatine, but now I want to learn about the Sith of the Old Republic!

Wow. That‘s all I can say. The intrigue, the character development, the brilliant prose. Impossible to put down! This novel is an essential companion to the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. This Machiavellian tragedy is the story of how the Sith gradually accumulate power through subterfuge and political manoeuvring, laying the groundwork for the fall of the Republic and the Jedi Order as portrayed in Revenge of the Sith.

Listened to audio book. Brilliant and a must for Star Wars fans. Origins stories can be a bore but this was compelling and the audio book was brilliantly produced. Seeing the start of the Emperor's rise was well thought through

All the Star Wars audio books are pretty awesome. They have background sound and Star Wars music and the narrator is always pretty good. This starts off slow but picks up some speed around the middle. It's interesting to see what was going on in the background to the events we already know.

Last year I wanted to listen to more audiobooks so I experimented w/ a WIDE variety. By chance, I started one Star Wars book & then suddenly my @OverDrive account was flooded w/ them! I couldn't get enough 🤓They're so well produced from the sound effects, the amazing narrators & background music - a truly rich & fun experience. I'm embracing my favorite 2016 reading discovery w/ more SW audio! Darth P is already completely addicting 😊

Books_Wine_Repeat I need to check these out. I love audiobooks and I'm addicted to OverDrive. Thanks for the heads up! 😁👍 7y

Really liked this prequel to the prequels. Too bad the prequels don't match up.
