Rising star author-illustrator Ethan M. Aldridge delivers a fantasy adventure with all the makings of a classic. Illustrated with over two-hundred pages of watercolor paintings, this epic graphic novel is perfect for fans of Amulet. Edmund and the Childe were swapped at birth. Now Edmund lives in secret as a changeling in the World Above, his fae powers hidden from his unsuspecting parents and his older sister, Alexis. The Childe lives among the fae in the World Below, where being a human makes him a curiosity at the royal palace. But when the cruel sorceress Hawthorne seizes the throne, the Childe and Edmund must unite on a dangerous quest to save both worldseven if theyre not sure which world they belong to. A splendid tale of faery magic and adventurous siblings, all told in gorgeously rendered watercolor panels: this is exactly my kind of thing. Ben Hatke, author and illustrator of the New York Times bestselling Zita the Spacegirl trilogy Its got dragons. Its got drama. Its got depth. And its got me impatiently awaiting Ethan M. Aldridges next eye-popping adventure. Tim Federle, award-winning author of Better Nate Than Ever and Five, Six, Seven, Nate! A compelling story about finding identity in a world where magic dangers lurk just around the corner. I loved Estranged! Molly Ostertag, author-illustrator of The Witch Boy

These are my favorite 2 frames in this graphic novel about a Fae underground kingdom and a changeling child finding out about the many types of family.

Imagine watching the underground train pass by…and then a DRAGON 🐉
And some commuters in the scene don‘t even notice😹😹

I love stories set in the land of the fae, and this was no exception! The illustrations are fantastic, and I‘m glad I have the 2nd one from the library so I can read it next!

MeganAnn I‘m so glad you liked it! It‘s good you have the second one hand because it wasn‘t out yet when I read this and it nearly killed Axton and I waiting! 😆 4y
alisiakae @MeganAnn My daughter just finished it too! She picked it up as soon as she got home from piano and also liked it! Has Axton read the Amulet series? If he liked Estranged, he would probably like those too! 4y
MeganAnn @4thhouseontheleft oh yes! He loves the Amulet series as well!! In fact, he was looking for something like that when we came across Estranged at the library. 4y
alisiakae @MeganAnn It sounds like our kids have similar reading tastes! 4y
MeganAnn @4thhouseontheleft definitely! Like mother, like child 😆 4y

I am loving this graphic novel so far, but kind of wondering how the “exacLTy” spelling error made it through the proofreading process!

ravenlee I see that kind of error (switched letters, omitted letters) often in graphic novels and it drives me nuts! 4y

Couldn‘t put it down. Definitely recommend this fantasy graphic novel - a great tale of what family means in a world of underground fae with the human above ground not too far away.

This is a great graphic novel for middle grade readers. Similar to Amulet, though in my opinion not quite as good, it‘s a fun, quick read with beautiful artwork. There are so many great ideas in each frame,it‘s clear this is something that Aldridge took many years & creative hours to bring to life. One of its main themes is building your “found family” and all the different ways that can look.Would recommend for a favorite 5th grader in your life.

Cute! I really liked this artwork, too. Would fey be considered monsters? If so.. 11 points for this read. Otherwise, only 6.

I finished this on Friday and this is total from then for #24B4Monday .. I've been feeling crappy, think I'm getting sick 😔

This is the modern tale of a changeling. It‘s a captivating story, and a pretty easy/fast read. The speed didn‘t take anything away from the hold this had over me though, making this a perfect book for ages 9 or 10 and up. My one complaint is that two of the characters are drawn identically, which made it confusing keeping track of who was speaking in a few frames. That may make it frustrating for some young readers, but I‘d still recommend it.
